Not so long ago, I was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. I received
my Bachelor of Arts degree from Michigan State University and then returned
to New York soon after to attend Brooklyn College for my Masters Degree in
Education. I taught for 5 years in New York and then spent another
2 years teaching on Guam.
After moving to Florida in 1976, I opened a children's book store, "A Kid's
Book Shoppe," on Miami Gardens Drive and kept busy as a proud parent of two
sons and a daughter.
I started teaching in 1990 at our AMAZING Virginia A. Boone Highland
Oaks Elementary and since then, have taught 1st-6th grades in all subjects.
(Yes, we once had a 6th grade!) While math and science are my majors,
children's literature is my passion. I also have led the Kiwanis Kids
community service club since its charter in 2001, the first of its kind in
our district.
In 2004, I was honored as Teacher of the Year at VABHOE and was ecstatic to
be a finalist at the Region 2 level.
Education has always been a top priority in my family, both when I was
growing up and when I raised my three children. I feel so fortunate to be
able to teach at a school that gave my own children received such a strong
educational foundation. It is my promise to you that I will help to motivate
and educate your children at a superior level. I plan to stay in close
contact with you and hopefully you will with me.
Looking forward to a wonderful, educational year.
Sincerely,
Edie Fine
