St. Louis is my home town. My family moved to North Miami Beach
when I was 6 years old. I attended Miami - Dade County Public Schools from
second grade through high school.
I graduated from Florida State University (Go Noles!) with a
Bachelor Degree in Exceptional Student Education. Since I was enrolled in a
special program, I immediately continued my studies receiving a Master's
Degree in Exceptional Student Education as well. The State of Florida
Certifications that I hold are: Varying Exceptionalities, Specific Learning
Disabilities and Emotionally Handicapped.
Being an alumni of Virginia A. Boone Highland Oaks Elementary
(VABHOE), I was more than a little happy to be given my first job by Mrs.
Virginia Boone and have the opportunity to teach where I had so many fond
childhood memories. In my years at VABHOE I have taught a diverse range of
grades, subjects and abilities. Some of my assignments were teaching:
Varying Exceptionalities(VE) K - 6 : Learning Disabled (LD) Gifted K - 6;
Emotionally Handicapped (EH) Gifted K - 6; and VE Inclusion 2nd and 5th
grade. Every year seems to be a new challenge and has always resulted in one
that I have thoroughly enjoyed.
My mission in my classroom is to create a calm, caring atmosphere where
students feel comfortable and safe and where academic excellence is
encouraged. In my lessons I will strive to encompass a recognition of
different learning styles and exhibit an awareness of students’ background
knowledge and skills.
SCHOOL MISSION STATEMENT
