About The Teacher

Welcome to the art department!

I am Sandy Urbistondo, art teacher at VABHOE for 23 years. My goal is to
instill in our students the
joy and process of creating a unique art piece that will increase their self
esteem and positive outlook
in the world of art just like I did at the age of seven when I took my first
paint brush and began
painting in school during recess. It was the best time of my life as it
still is today when I pick up a
paint brush.

Mission Statement

The mission statement for the art department at VABHOE is to train the
children to exercise their
judgement and increase their sensitivity with regard to the natural artistic
and cultural environment.

The program enables the child to become more conscious of his/her own
imagination with emphasis
on the stimulation of the emotional participation of the child. Also, the
lessons are designed to
nurture the child's dexterity and value judgement in the selection of
various alternatives through the
use of multi-media art projects. Lectures and demonstrations in art history
are also incorporated to
foster in the child a better understanding and appreciation of the cultural
heritage within our
frontiers, as well as the world scale. Furthermore, the use of technology
and research will transmit
the cultural heritage of all humanity in relation to visual art for visual
literacy.

Goals:

1. To foster within the children imaginative thinking, confidence in their
own ideas and personal
style, and persistence.

2. To increase art vocabulary and develop an awareness of the history of
art.

3. To allow an integration of art with other subjects that will show
evidence of math, science, social
studies, and language arts.

4. To encourage the use of technology and research that will challenge the
children to stretch the
possibilities of assigned projects and cultural themes to the fullest.
