Say "Aloha" to Summer...
The end of the school year is almost here!  We hope that it has been a fun and educational experience for all of our students.  It has been extremely rewarding for us to see these students grow and change throughout the year.  Now, its time to reward them for all their hardwork by celebrating our End of the Year Party!  On Wednesday, June 8th, first grade will have a Hawaiian luau to welcome the summer.  The celabration will take place in the outdoor pavillion.  We will be barbecuing some delicious hot dogs and burgers while the students participate in a variety of games and activities and even a wildlife show!  Students should bring a school appropriate bathing suit, flip flops, and a towel as there will be some water activities.  (Please remember to pack a change of clothes for your child to change into after the celebration.  We are asking each parent to send $15.00 to their child's homeroom teacher to cover the cost of food, decorations, and the show!  Please send the payment by Wednesday, May 25th so that we can start the preparations for the big day!

(3 volunteer hours will be awarded for donating to our party).

Please send in a self addressed stamped envelope with your child's name on it so that you may receive your child's 4th quarter report card.  This envelope must be brought in by Friday, June 3rd

Our class will be celebrating Earth day on Thursday, April 21st.  We will be learning about the different ways we can help protect the natural resources on our planet Earth.  One of the ways we can conserve our resources is by reusing items that would be otherwise thrown away.

Project:  Have your child choose an item that can be recycled, such as a milk carton, can, bottle, egg carton, etc.  Together, turn it into something "new".  For example, make a pencil holder from a can or a bird feeder from a milk jug.  Invite your child to decorate the item.

These projects will be due on Thursday, April 21st.   They will be presented in class.  Your child should be able to explain what the item previously was and what they did to turn it into something new.  This project will be worth one grade in science and one grade in social studies.

***Volunteer opportunities:  We are in desperate need of Copy paper and tissue paper!!!

***There is no school on Friday, April 22nd.

The SAT exam is scheduled for the week of April 12th.

SAT stands for the Stanford Achievement Test.  This exam measures student progress toward high academic standards. The SAT is a multiple-choice assessment in Reading and Math that will help teachers find out what students know and are able to do. This exam is also used as an indicator for the FCAT.
