Week of February 13 – February 20
Dear Parents and students,
We continue to work diligently to fulfill our daily goals of being engaged in
stimulating and challenging activities that promote our third grade and above
skills and strategies for learning. As we engage students in our Learning
Renaissance we are checking for accurate math facts timed by the minute (now
it’s 0-10) and encouraging accelerated reading tests on stories that we’ve
read. We are charting and rewarding each success weekly. Congratulations to
all our successes! We’ve just earned our magnet party celebration for all our
great behavior in class, specials, and the cafeteria.
This week we will read My Very Own Room and our focus skill is plot
development and making inferences and the strategy is monitor comprehension.
Our grammar skill is contractions with not.
In Go Math we will solve problems using the strategy draw a diagram, know
which customary unit to use to measure the length of an object or a distance,
measuring length to the nearest half inch and quarter inch, and knowing which
metric unit to use to measure the length of an object in a distance. PLEASE
NOTE that there will be a chapter 10 math assessment on Tuesday, Feb. 14th.

We are fortunate to be involved in this opportunity and please look for
weekly activities on the home page. The unique log-ins and passwords can be
found in the front of each student’s planner.
Our next book report project will be a Biography using the format of a Diorama
OR a Manilla folder. This will be due on Monday, February 27.
Benchmark 2 scores are out and you can check our students’ strengths,
weaknesses, and scores on Virtual Counselor through BEEP. (browardschools.com)
Our Heart Run is on Feb. 17th, so please plan accordingly. (bring in a water
bottle and other necessary items)

Tuesday, February 14 - Let Your HCE Love Shine - Wear your sunglasses.
Wednesday, February 15 - HCE Twins Day - Dress like a friend
Thursday, February 16 - HCE ManaTEAMS Day - Wear your favorite sports team
clothing.
Friday, February 17 - Heart Run Friday - Wear as much red as you can.
*****ALSO- For every day a class has perfect attendance that week they will be
entered into a drawing for a class ice cream party. Five days of perfect
attendance, five chances to win!!!!!! The icecream party will take place on
Friday!!!!!!
Please continue to sign the planners daily to promote communication between
home and school. Please feel free to intermittently check that our students
are completing all their assignments in a timely manner. Please get our
students here on time or a few minutes early so that we can begin our day on
time. Thank you.
