Have your student write the secret code word for the week to let me know that
you checked the website this week. The secret word this week
is "quadrilateral."
Flat Stanley has been traveling all over...his latest stop was in New York.
If possible, could you send in stamps to cover his travels through the postal
service? THANKS! The students are really engaged in this project and look
forward to receiving letters.
In addition to the SkillsTutor information that was sent home a few weeks
ago, please keep the information on the Online Assessment System in a safe
place. Students can go online and take practice tests for the CRCT, effective
immediately. We are fortunate to have this opportunity for our students to
use as practice. Please take advantage of it at home as well.
Please keep the information regarding SkillsTutor that was sent home in a
safe place. This is a great opportunity that Blackwell students have to
practice Reading and Math concepts at home. You need your
child's id number and password to access it, so keep it handy!
In an effort to continue our “going green” goal, we are now looking for
students to bring in their empty Capri Sun drink pouches to be recycled.
There is a collection box located on the main level hall across from the
stairs, next to the pop top and soup label bins. The school will receive 2
cents for every pouch recycled (1 box of 10 Capri Suns = 20 cents!).
The monthly PTA newsletter can be found on the Blackwell website.
PTA welcomes your feedback and encourages your participation in any and all
activities!
Just a reminder that we are collecting Box Tops, Campbell's soup labels, and
the pop tabs off of soda cans. THANKS!
This is an excerpt from an article I read on how powerful (and free) reading
can be...check it out:
"Did she have to invest $230 in a 17-pound box of flashcards and phonics
tapes? Did she have to enroll him in an elite and expensive preschool? Did
she have to bring him down to the computer store and plug him into expensive
software? All Kelly Kline needed—all anyone needs—is a free public library
card and the determination to invest her mind and time in her child's
future. Nothing on Wall Street pays dividends as rich as that...Every child
cannot be a Derek, but every child should have the chance Derek was given.
Extensive research has proven that reading aloud to a child is the single
most important factor in raising a reader. These inexpensive 15 minutes a
day are the best-kept secret in American education."
Please send in a healthy snack for your child each day, since we do not eat
lunch until 11:26. I ask that you send WATER in with your child as recent
spills have been an issue with drinks other than water. THANK YOU!
"Children laugh an average of 300 times a day; adults laugh an average of 5
times a day. We have a lot of catching up to do." ---Heather King, Crib Notes
THANKS!
