Dear 5th Grade Students and Parents,
The CRCT is rapidly approaching! As we get closer to the testing window,
please encourage your child to utilize our online resources to help practice
and review skills. Today each child received a print out from Study Island
with math standards highlighted that still need to be completed/practiced on
to reach mastery. You and your child can login to Study Island at ANY time
and review concepts in math, language arts, reading, science and social
studies. Each standard has a short "lesson" which reviews the topic, and I
strongly encourage students to read the lesson BEFORE trying any
practice problems! Remember, if you have any questions, you can always send
me a message through the Study Island messaging system.
We have a lot of important events coming up in March, so please be on the
lookout for information sent home in your child's Tuesday folder.
Thanks,
Ms. L.

Welcome back 5th Graders! I hope you had a restful break and are ready to get
busy crunching numbers and boning up on your knowledge of electricity and
magnetism! I found this neat website with an interactive human heart that I
thought might be interesting. Check it out!

Today we had a health/science lesson where we talked about head lice. We had
lots of ideas or things that we "used to think" about lice. Some of them
were true, but some of them were not. Use the links below to further
investigate what is fact and what is fiction when it comes to lice.
You will need to copy and paste these links into your browser window to use
them. (Highlight them, right click to copy, and then paste them into where
the website URL appears.)

Your challenge - change all of your "used to think(s)" to "but now I KNOW(s)"
and then see if you can even add a few more!

Dear parents and students,
Welcome to a brand new year in 5th grade!
This year will be a little different from previous years since Mrs. Cooley
and myself are departmentalizing in terms of the subjects we teach.. Mrs.
Cooley will be teaching Language Arts (Reading, Writing, Spelling, Grammar)
and Social Studies. I will be teaching Math, Science and Health. Because we
will be switching classes, it is very important to help your student stay
organized. Students should bring their binder to school every day. Inside
their binder should be their agenda, a red pen, pencils, a highlighter, and a
dry erase marker. Homework changes on a daily basis and is assigned by both
teachers. It is your child's responsibility to make sure that they record the
homework assignment(s) in their agenda for each class every day. It is also
their responsibility to show their parents' their agenda and have them sign
it every night.
You will recieve communication from the school and from us in a variety of
ways, but expect a "Tuesday Folder" with important announcements to come home
weekly and graded papers every other week or so. You will also have the
ability this year to check your students' grades using the Pinnacle online
grading system. (More information about this should be coming soon!) Please
feel free to contact me via the agenda or email if you have any comments,
questions, or concerns. I am looking forward to getting to know each one of
you. I know that we're going to have a wonderful year!
Sincerely,
Ms. Lattimore
