Daily Communication- BARK BOOK (Bright Amazing Responsible Kids)
In order to help keep your second grader organized, your child has been
given a Bark Book as a communication and organizational tool. Please check
each section of the book daily. Your child is expected to return this to
school each day. The following information explains the sections in our
BARK BOOK:

Class Newsletter and Other Important Papers or Forms From School-
This includes our classroom newsletter (on yellow copy paper), which will
contain important information, as well as items from the office. Please
note that some of the items will need to be filled out and returned to
school. Book Order forms will also be placed in this section; however,
ordering is optional.

Lunch $, Transportation Notes, and Other Notes- All lunch $ should be inside
an envelope and placed inside the pencil pouch. Any transportation notes or
other notes should also be included in this section.

Agenda (Parent/Teacher Communication- Students will receive a stamp in the
agenda each day for good conduct (no points lost). Minor discipline
problems are handled in the classroom without notifying parents. If a
behavior point is lost, you will be notified in the Agenda, and if a
situation arises that is continual or of a more serious nature, I will
notify you by phone. Rewards are used in my classroom and school-wide to
recognize students who show positive behavior. At Open House I will discuss
my discipline plan along with Canongate’s school-wide discipline plan in
more detail.

Homework- You will find your child’s spelling list in this section as
well as all homework assignments. Homework will be assigned weekly. Any
papers that need to be completed for homework will be in this section.
Completed homework will be returned to school in this section as well.

Poetry Pocket- Beginning this month, your child will memorize one poem per
month to recite before the class. Monthly poems can be found in the Poetry
Pocket section of the BARK BOOK.

Papers (Keep at Home)- These papers have been checked. You may review
these and keep these at home.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Accelerated Reader- Starting in September, your child will have a monthly
reading goal. We will utilize the Accelerated Reader (AR) program to help
students reach their goals. There will be more information to come
regarding AR, so stay tuned! :)

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Monthly Poems- Each child is required to memorize at home and recite at
school 1 poem each month. Look in the Poetry Pocket of the BARK BOOK at the
beginning of the month to find the poems.
