Reminders:
Social Studies - Students were given the Civil War ABC book project
today. They will be creating a ABC book about the Civil War. Today they
were shown examples and given directions. This project will be completed at
home. Students will have 4 weeks to complete this assignment. The due date
will be Monday, December 8, 2009. I also gave students some websites to do
thier research. If you have any questions about the project, please don't
hesitate to contact me. I will be meeting with ALP and absent students
tomorrow to explain the project.
Please review with your child multiplication facts - we have a 5 minute timed
test every Friday. Knowing these facts are very important to suceeding in
the fifth grade math curriculum.
Mathematics:
We currently on working dividing decimals by decimals (chapter 10). We will
have our posttest on Monday, November 2, 2009. Students can use the pretest
they took as a study guide - work through each problem to ensure
understanding. We will then be moving to order of operations which is the
second lesson in chapter 11. We will then continue with chapter four, which
is on identifying and analyzing graphs.
Social Studies:
We will be having our test on chapter five - events leading up to the Civil
War - students have their study guide and notebook to use as a source for
studying. We will then continue with chapter six - The Nation at War.
This week a project will be given in social studies on the Civil War - more
information will be coming soon.
Reading: We continue to work on reading comprehension strategies. We
currently have been working on making connections. Next week we will be
working on making inferences. Students are doing a great job with their
reading logs.
Spelling: Next week we will begin working on sort 11 - students should be
bringing their words home on a daily basis to study.
Grammar/Writing: We are currently working on verbs in our grammar workbook.
We have also been working on descriptive writing. We will then move to
writing a fantasy narrative, as we learn about story elements.
