Mrs. Bishop’s News and Notes
2/6/12
Dear Parents,
Hi, I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend! Please remember that
the Sock Hop is this Saturday. You can purchase tickets through Wednesday
using the pink order form that was sent home. Hope to see you there for all
the fun!
This week in reading we will continue to focus on cause/effect and
questioning in fiction and nonfiction texts. We will also review identifying
the main idea and details. We will read and gather facts about Jackie
Robinson for social studies. This is going to be a challenging week in
spelling. We will review spellings for long vowel sounds. We will study
words that have CVCe (bake, like), CVVC (steep, rain), CVCC (most, blind),
and CV or CVV (way, blew, crow). C stands for consonant and V stands for
vowel. In writing, we are going to plan and write informational paragraphs
about what cause day and night. We are continuing to work with prefixes,
base words, and suffixes. In math, we review addition with three digit
numbers and begin to practice subtracting with number in the hundreds.
Additionally, we will review edges and vertices on solid shapes and review
graphing. We will also begin learning about place value to the thousands.
In science, we will learn about how the Earth, sun, moon, and stars relate to
each other. We will study the phases of the moon with a hands-on Oreo
lesson. Please make sure that your child is correctly completing and
returning their moon phases calendar daily. Thanks!!!
Have a great week!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Bishop
