Let me tell you a little about myself. This summer I finished my
Specialist's degree in Early Childhood Education at Georgia State
University. Who knows? Maybe a Ph.D. next! This will be my twenty-second
year in teaching. I taught third grade for thirteen years, fifth grade for
four years, and I’m excited to be teaching my fifth year in fourth grade. I
also have my gifted certification, and I love using those higher level
thinking skills in all curriculum areas.
I have been married twenty-six years as of August 24th! I have a fifteen
year-old son named Tyler who is in the tenth grade at Hillgrove, and a twelve-
year-old daughter who is in the seventh grade at Lovinggood. I had a great
summer spending time with them. I marched in the colorguard of a drum and
bugle corps called the Spirit of Atlanta in my late teens and early
twenties, and I enjoy seeing different drum corps shows around the country in
the summer. I love to travel, but since I was finishing my degree I only got
one trip this summer, but it was to my favorite city - Savannah! I also
enjoy gardening, reading and scrapbooking.
My desire is for the children to develop or increase their love of
learning. I want them to not be afraid to take risks and to understand that
in order to grow we must sometimes make mistakes and learn from those
mistakes. I also want them to be aware of how they, by their words and
actions, influence the world around them and how other people perceive
them.
