About The Teacher

Welcome to the Art Room! I have been teaching Art education in Cobb County
for 19 years, and have been teaching at Cheatham Hill Elementary since it
opened in 1996! I received my BSFA degree at Southern Connecticut State
University and worked as a Commercial Artist for 10 years when I decided to
teach what I am passionate about...Art! I earned my teaching degree at
Kennesaw State University and my Masters degree at Berry College. I am
currently enrolled in the Ed.S program at Lincoln Memorial University. My
husband, Ken and I have two sons. When I am not teaching, my family and I
love to travel; explore new places and experience their culture. I have my
own studio in which I paint and draw and create.

Mission For The Class

My goal is to instill an appreciation for the visual arts in each student.
The art curriculum emphasizes the concepts of observation and imagination to
develop visual literacy skills. In order to develop visual literacy, we use
a Discipline Based approach to Art Education. The art curriculum is based on
the National Standards for Visual Arts (K-8).

During art class your child will…

Develop skills and organize knowledge of materials, techniques and processes
for creating and producing visual art.

Use knowledge of visual structures and functions of art to communicate ideas.

Explore and evaluate a range of subject matter, symbols and ideas.

Examine the visual arts in relation to history and cultures.

Reflect and assess the characteristics and merits of their work and the work
of others.

Art Students are also provided opportunities to make interdisciplinary
connections between Art and other subject areas such as Language Arts, Math,
Social Studies, Science, Music and Technology.

“Art is everywhere, except it has to pass through a creative mind."
 - Louise Nevelson
