Homework

Why I assign homework...

Homework! I can still remember when my daughter and son would say, “When
will we have homework?” Now I know they wished they had never asked that
question! Fortunately, in Kindergarten homework will be kept to a minimum.
Homework in Kindergarten is primarily about developing responsibility in the
children. This is a skill that will serve them well later in their school
career!

How much is too much?

Kindergartners should spend no more than 10-15 minutes each evening on
homework, plus some time reading with you. If it is taking your child
consistently more time on an assignment, please let me know. If your child
is tired and unable to continue do not force them to finish. While our goal
is to create a responsible child, we all have days when we are not feeling
our best!

Family Involvement

Most of a Kindergartner’s homework is intended to be done with the guidance
of another person. It is not intended for them to sit down and complete on
their own. Sometimes I will ask that your child write things down or
practice a skill with you but the most important thing for you to remember
is to try to have fun while doing it!

Please remember to check the daily calendar sheet that is in your child’s
blue folder and initial it daily.
