Some information about Ms. Black

I grew up in Marietta, Georgia. My parents live close to the "Big
Chicken. I now live in Kennesaw. I am a product of Cobb County schools and
recieved my bachlors and masters degree in education from Kennesaw State
University. I also have an add-on administrative degree. I am currently the director of the after
school program at Cheatham Hill.
I have two grown daughters named Shanna Willis and Laura Battle. I also
have five grandchildren: Austin(17), Jesse(14), Derrick(8), Alyssa(7), and
Zoe(6). There are several animals in our house. There are 7 dogs, 3 cats, 1
geiko and 1 fish. I use to have a tarantula.
I love to read and I am so excited about my new Kindle. I love to work in my flower garden.
Unfortunately, I am not able to work in the yard as much as I would like since breaking my ankle 5
years ago. I then developed crippling osteo-arthritus, so I had an ankle fusion. I thank God for a
restored ankle..
I love God, my family, friends, teaching, books, chocolate, and Dunkin
Doughnut coffee (in that order).

Mission For The Class

It is my desire to create in each child the intrinsic desire to want to
read. Books open so many doors for learning and experiencing the world. It
wasn't until I was in the 11th grade that a teacher turned me on to reading.
I strive to be a good role model with regard to reading by reading with
students, reading to students and listening to them read.
I also want students to become risk-takers without fear. They do this by
working outside their comfort zone. More times than not there is success.
Even if they don't succeed, they always learn.
When students leave my class I hope they have had a year where they
actually enjoyed learning and this enthusiasm last far beyond my reach.
