The most important thing I can tell you about myself is that I love
teaching. Helping children grow and discover is a wonderful way to spend
each day. Teaching is truly the most rewarding job I can imagine.
Although this is only my fifth year of teaching, I have been a part
of the Cheatham Hill community for over 14 years. My son Matthew, a
senior at the University of Georgia, was a second grader the year
Cheatham Hill opened and my daughter Rebecca is now a freshman at Auburn
University. While my children attended Cheatham Hill, I enjoyed volunteering
with the PTA and helping in the library. I also tutored with the RISE
program at Cheatham Hill, which inspired me to return to college (my first
degree is in political science) to earn my elementary education teaching
certificate.
Outside of school, my husband and I spend much of our time walking our dogs,
watching soccer, and volunteering at Our Pals Place, a dog rescue in
Marietta. Whenever we get the chance, our family loves to travel. We have
enjoyed hiking to the bottom of the Grand Canyon with all four grandparents,
walking on a glacier in Alaska, and visiting the Colesseum. I spend any other
free moments reading, collecting books, and reading some more!!
SCHOOL SHOULD BE FUN. The more children enjoy school, the more motivated
they are to do well and the more likely they will continue to be life-long
learners.
CHILDREN WILL ACHIEVE WHAT IS EXPECTED OF THEM. Teachers and parents should
set high, realistic expectations. Children should be challenged to use every
available brain neuron! Teachers and parents should provide both guidance
and encouragement.
A STRONG FOUNDATION IS THE KEY TO SUCCESS. Reading, writing and arithmetic
are the essential basics; they should be explored, practiced and enjoyed
daily. We will read, write and calculate throughout our day.
