Writing- We are practicing how to write persuasive writings!  This is my favorite genre and one that 2nd graders can't deny knowing.  I find out every year that children love to persuade or convince each other, parents, and teachers.  Most have completed their first writing about the book "Hey Little Ant".  We did something a little different this time and used Microsoft Word to type our final drafts.  Once again, the class amazed me by their ability to learn as they go.  I love going over the main points of a lesson and then helping the students as they explore and complete a task through trial and error. They want to type every paper now!

Reading-  We have been learning lots about life cycles from classroom books, informational charts, and digital tools such as Brainpop Jr.  With the combination of this, writing and math groups have been a little choppy.  We are definitely getting plenty of reading accomplished in class, however!  Very soon we will begin Bare Book writings and I will be giving independent Development Reading Assessments (DRAs).  This too will cause interruptions and a possible delay with guided reading groups.

Math -Multiplication has been the main focus!  The class seems to enjoy making groups, arrays, repeated addition problems, and solving word problems.  We will need to keep practicing addition and subtraction as it will still be assessed  at the end of the year.

Science/Social Studies- We have been hard at work creating cool graphic organizers to learn about life cycles.  Students now know the life cycle of a frog, butterfly, and a plant.  We will learn about dogs, birds, a reptile,  and humans next.
