How can I change the way my child goes home?

Please send a note with your child in their daily folder. If
there is an emergency you may call the school and have them
attend ASP (After School Program). However, email or a phone
call can't change the way they go home to a bus or a car. You
may also sign them out of school from the office. This is just
for your child's safety.

How can I contact Mrs. Way?

The best and fastest is through email. Mrs. Way's email is
jonna.way@cobbk12.org. If you need to call the school 678-594-
8034 leave me a message and I will get back to you. Notes need
to be sent in the daily folder and will be answered within 24
hours.

What are the expectations of the students?

I expect each child to be a learner and allow their friends to be
learners too. They should be responsible for their actions and
understand why they are here.

What can we do at home to help my child learn?

Read daily!!! We also have a homework calendar in their daily
folder. Please choose one item to do each day, and then try to
complete the calendar by the end of the month.

How do children adjust to the full day?

Most children adjust quickly. However, it is tiring. We have a
story time in the afternoon to help them recharge their
batteries. If you notice problems, let me know.

Will there be homework?

Yes, but you get to choose what to do each day. There is a
calendar of activities in the daily folder. Do only one activity
each day so you have the homework routine the entire month.
There are also small reader books sent home each week.

Do you need help from parents?

We do have volunteers help in our room after the first two weeks
of school. You are also welcome to come eat lunch with your
child anytime after the first week. Also, watch the newsletter
for things that we need in our room.

Do you start a reading program immediately?

Yes. We will begin reading and writing the first week of
school. It will take a couple of weeks before we begin sending
books home.

Do you teach computers?

Yes. We have technology standards just like we have reading,
writing and arithmetic. We will be going to the computer lab
periodically.

With a large class, how will attention be divided among the students?

We have leveled groups for part of the day. Then they rotate
through the groups. That way I can have a small group of 3-5
students to read with and write with. If a child needs extra
time, we also individually work with them to make sure they have
the concept that we are trying to teach.
