Report Card Information

Dear Parents,

Attached you will find Cornerstone’s new report card. The design is aimed at giving you as much specific information about your child, at school, as possible. It is important to remember that this is a general summary of your child’s progress to date and not a determination of his/her potential. Students fluctuate from year to year, report card to report card and concept to concept; they are not static commodities. Please be assured that we are always working to achieve progress and mastery with all students.

Overall Grade:

This grade is a number out of 100 that represents the amount of work completed correctly/mastered.

Personal Performance

This is a letter grade that depicts the amount of effort, exerted by the student, to complete the work.

Example: A student may have received a grade of 70% on the work completed and have worked hard (A) to attain that grade. It is our goal to find a balance in the work, where it is not too easy and not too hard and that is a constant effort by our teachers.

Skill & Understanding Level

This is the level of the work being completed by the student. Levels may differ by subject area.

1-indicates that a student is working below grade level in that particular subject, at this particular time.

2-indicates that a student is working at grade level in a particular subject, at this particular time.

3-indicates that a student is working above grade level in a particular subject, at this particular time.

Organization Skills & Character Development

Students with 3 *’s are able to take instruction and work independently in the classroom. They are, age appropriately, accountable and responsible for their own work. Students are respectful of others and themselves. They take pride in their work and return to school with homework complete.

Students with 2*’s are able to take instruction and work independently some of the time. They are working on becoming accountable and responsible for their own work. Students are respectful of others and themselves most of the time. Their work is completed accurately and homework is done most of the time.

Students with 1 * have an opportunity for personal growth and maturity. They have a difficult time completing work independently and struggle with the goals of a classroom setting. The student may have difficulty taking responsibility for the quality and completion of their work.

Specials (Art, PE, Spanish, Computers and Music) Grades

For kindergarten through 5th grade specials grades are E-excellent, S-satisfactory and IP-in progress. Grades are based on participation, contribution to the class and work completed (weighted in this order).

The Junior High students receive actual percentage grades based on work completed, contribution to the class and participation (weighted in this order).

Again, this is a report to summarize where your child is in his/her development right now. The purpose of the report is to make certain everyone is on the same page at this time. The report highlights the successes over the past nine weeks and the opportunities for growth in the next 9 weeks.

The reverse side of the report card may briefly outline topics that were covered or include a specific comment from the teacher.

Please look over the sample report card and if you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask.

The sample report card can be found at the 'Cornerstone Documents' web page (following this link).
