Our regular, everyday, flu policy will continue to be fever free for 24 hours without meds before coming back to school. However, while trying to contain this outbreak and stop the spread the 7 day recommendation is in place to try and help everyone.

4th Grade Swim Day CHANGED from Thursday to Tuesday at 12:00pm from here on out.
Hot Lunch Options
Pick & Choose
Families wishing to select specific days for their child to eat lunch may do so by the last Friday of the month prior to the next month’s menu selections. Please email a list of what days your child will eat lunch and forward a check to the office for the total number of lunches for the month.
Each lunch will be $4.00 and lunches must be selected and paid for by the last Friday of the month prior to the next month’s menu selections.
For example, if your child would like to eat hot lunch 5 days out of the month for September:
1. Email a list of the dates that they will be eating hot lunch in September by August 28th. Please put ‘Lunches’ in the subject line. francel@cornerstonesch.com or elainefrancel@bellsouth.net
2. Send a check to the main office for the cost of September lunches by August 28th.
Hopefully, this is a convenient option for families and it allows Cornerstone to accurately order food for the month.
Monday Flu Update:
We have SEVERAL ...students out with flu today. The Jr. High is affected the most but there are a few other cases in the elementary level.
What we are hearing is this: flu tests have been questionable as several students have tested negative for flu at the onset of symptoms but 24 to 48 hours later have full blown flu. The most popular onset of symptoms here at Cornerstone are: headache, sore throat or dry cough.
For Jr. High students that are out with flu; your teachers are putting the day's work on their websites. Please let us know if you require a textbook and we will have one ready for you at the front desk. Due to the number of students out, the work pace has been slowed.
Elementary students that are out sick; we will have your work at the front desk by this afternoon for pick up.
Book Report Forms can be down loaded and printed off of Ms. Bobbie's Libraries website.
Thanks for your continued patience and support.

Flu Update 08-23-09 3:00pm
Hello parents,
I have had several emails asking about children being fever free for 24 hours and then sending them back to school. Please understand that I realize the 7 day flu protocol (recommended by the CDC), to stop the spread, is a royal pain! However, I would like to be proactive in limiting the momentum of the flu at Cornerstone.
I am especially concerned about very young siblings of our students, pregnant moms at Cornerstone and Cornerstone teachers (we need them healthy to keep the classes going). So if your child has had the flu this week or is experiencing the onset of symptoms please keep them out of school for 7 days. We will do everything possible to help them get caught up with their school work.
The difference between a cold and flu:
Flu symptoms are felt all over the body in the form of high fever, body or muscle aches, headache, tiredness, dry cough, sore throat, runny nose.
Cold symptoms are usually felt from the neck up…runny or stuffy nose.
Thanks for your support,
Elaine

Second Update
The 8th grader has NOT been hospitalized. The student has been at home dealing with common flu symptoms.
H1N1 Update 4:00pm
The doctor's office that diagnosed our 8th grader with H1N1 has stated that...they diagnose all flu cases as H1N1 at this time because it is too early in the season for the A1 flu. They are no longer testing specifically for the H1N1 as resources have been overwhelmed. Therefore, we are following regular flu protocol which is...if your child exhibits any flu symptoms they must be out of school for seven days. Seven days starts on the day they came down with the symptoms.
Several of our 8th graders have come down with flu symptoms, however, we have not seen a disproportionate level of flu symptoms in the other grades.
We are suggesting that you watch for flu symptoms in your children and call your doctor at the onset of any symptoms.
If you would like your child's class work, please call in the morning and we will have it ready for pick up in the afternoon. Teachers will also help students with make-up work so no one will get too far behind.
Have a good weekend,
Elaine
We have just been notified that a student at Cornerstone Schools is suspected of having H1N1 (the swine flu).
Cornerstone Schools will remain open.
However, it is up to each parent as to whether or not you would like to keep HEALTHY students out for 7 days to watch for flu symptoms. ANY student who has had flu symptoms this week, must stay home from school for 7 days.
If you would like to pick up your child, please just come to school as we do not want to tie up the phone lines.
Best regards,
Elaine
