Spring Music Festival

Please join us on Saturday, April 28th from 11 am - 2 pm. Mucial performances by Cornerstone students. Hay rides, face painting, food and drinks. Lots of family fun! (Students performing should arrive at 10:45 and do not need to wear uniforms. Casual attire is fine)

The Art Show yesterday was a huge success! Thanks to all of the volunteers and Ms. Stephanie. The students really enjoyed showing off their masterpieces.

Welcome Back! We hope you had a fabulous Spring Break!

Kathleen Kinda sophomore this year, recently took the COMPASS (test that evaluates student's skills for college placement). A student must score a 42 to pass, and the average student scores a 70. Kathleen scored a 96! This would place her in College level English 101. Kathleen also scored high in math, placing her in College level Algebra. Congratulations to Kathleen for her incredible accomplishments and thanks to our dedicated Cornerstone teachers!

Congratulations to Spencer Mackie and Joshua Caldwell-Watson who placed 3rd in the Regional Stock Market Contest. Way to go!

Iowa testing dates are Monday, April 30 - Friday, May 4th for K - 8th grades. Testing times are 8:30 to 9:30 daily. Please plan your schedules accordingly as Iowa tests are difficult to make up.

Parent Volunters needed to serve food and sell art for the K - 7th Art Gallery on Wed. April 18th. The time slots available for volunteers are:

Chess Program for students 1st - 8th grades

This is a 10 week program run by North GA Chess Center. The cost is $100, checks payable to NGCC and can be prorated if your child is starting late.

Congratulations to Taylor Martin who won the Semi-Final Oratorical competition! He will continue on to the finals March 14th.


Cornerstone is in 1st place this week with the Stock Market Competition. Fourth Grade/Team #3 with Jake Hill and Sergio Moreira have the highest score! Way to go!


Spanish Field Trip is set for March 15th. Students in 7th - 10th grades will visit Pueblos Mexican Cuisine. What a great way for students to practice their Spanish skills. Thanks to the Moreira family for hosting this event!


Box Tops recently submitted will earn our school a little over $200. Please continue to turn in your box tops to Theresa in the front office. Thanks!

Cornerstone Spelling Bee is on Friday, January 20th at 9am! Classroom winners will compete against one another for the title of Elementary Bee Champ and Middle School Bee Champ. Parents/Family are welcome to join us on Friday to help cheer on our competitors. Teachers will notify parents of students competing on Friday. There is one boy and one girl selected from each classroom.
Note: Only the middle school winner will move on to the district spelling bee:)

Dear Parents,
With some disappointment we would like to announce that Mr. McVey (aka Mr. Blue) our technology teacher will be leaving Cornerstone as of January 19th, 2012. We are happy for him, as he has been offered an excellent career opportunity, but will miss him here at Cornerstone very much. We wish him all the best!

Congratulations Cornerstone Optimist Essay Winners:
Caroline Connelly and Kathleen Kind!!!!!!!
This competition was open to middle/high students to write about "How My Positive Outlook Benefits My Community". Caroline and Kathleen did an excellent job on their essays and will now move on to the Club level competition in February. Winners at the Club level will receive a $500 savings bond and move on to the District level. District level winners will receive a $2500 college scholarship!

Dear Parents,

We have re-evaluated the decision to change administrative roles in January and will defer to the original plan: Ms. Angie will be in the office on Mondays and Tuesdays and Ms. Elaine will be in the office on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. We will continue to move forward with the IB accreditation within this administrative arrangement. We will communicate progress of the IB accreditation status in a monthly update.

Toys for Tots/Toys for Children spending Christmas at Scottish Rite Hospital - We have a couple of Cornerstone Families collecting toys for children in need over the next couple of weeks. If you would like to participate please drop off UNWRAPPED toys for boys and/or girls of all ages at buildings B and C.
Gift cards and movie tickets would be very helpful to pass along to teens.

Band Concert and Formal on Thursday
Students will NOT be wearing dress uniform for the concert this year. What ever they are planning to wear for the formal is what they should have on to perform in the concert.Students not staying for the formal can be dressed in clothes they deem 'dressy'. All students are expected to participate in the band concert as this is a culmination of what they have learned over the semester.

Friday - RAFFLE TICKET DRAW at 1:30pm
We will all assemble in the gym - parents are welcome to join us. It will be a 20-30 minute assembly. The iPad 2 winner will be drawn as well as the winning classrooms for number of tickets sold. Please have all tickets in by Friday at noon so that they will be included in the drawing.

6th - 10th Grades: You should be studying for midterms a little each night.

Time Change for:
Kindergarten through 3rd grade Christmas concert will be held on Thursday, December 15th at 2:00pm. This concert will last approximately 30 minutes. Everyone welcome!
 

Students will NOT be wearing dress uniform for the concert this year. What ever they are planning to wear for the formal is what they should have on to perform in the concert. Students not staying for the formal can be dressed in clothes they deem 'dressy'. All students are expected to participate in the band concert as this is a culmination of what they have learned over the semester.

 
Formal - In order to protect the floor in the gym, all shoes must have rubber soles-no heels or spikes. If you have any questions please contact Angie at angie.martin@cornerstonesch.com.


Girls On the Run registration begins Dec. 1st for the SPRING session.
This is for girls in 3rd to 5th grades. The group is limited to the first 15 girls registered.

Kindergarten Field Trip to Fernbank is Tuesday, November 29th. Please remember to turn in permission forms. Students need to be in dress uniform.

2nd & 3rd grade field trip to Fernbank is Wednesday, November 30th. Permission forms will go home on Monday. Please return forms on Tuesday. Students need to be in dress uniform.

The Christmas Raffle for an iPad 2 - 64GB was unveiled on the Friday before we left for our break. If your child was not in attendance on Friday a package will go home with them on Monday with information. The goal of the raffle is to raise funds to purchase iPads for the classrooms at Cornerstone. We will draw the winner of the iPad 2 - 64GB at a 20 minute assembly on Friday, December 9th.

The presentation will begin at 6pm in building C on Wednesday, November 16th. 
Understanding the role of proper nutrition and its impact and concentration in school, brain development, and health. Dr. Doniparthi will illustrate the science and implications of balanced nutrition in early and late childhood as it relates to academic performance.
We are very excited to have Dr. Doniparthi come to our campus, we look forward to seeing you there:)

The Private School Tax Credit Program (SSO) has $6 million dollars remaining for the 2011 tax year. It may already be too late, but if you are interested in participating please do ASAP. Once the money is accounted for the program is closed for the tax year.
The good news is that there will be another $50 million available in January for the 2012 tax year.

The entire process is suppose to become available on-line beginning in January 2012. Stay tuned for updates.

Proceeds earned from Scholastic Books has enabled us to purchase 2 interactive boards and 1 high end projector over the past year for Cornerstone Schools. This meeting is for those who pre-registered in the Spring as well as any new registrations and re-registrations. GS meetings will be held on Tuesday’s directly after school at Cornerstone once a month for each level (Daisy’s - K&1st grades) (Brownies 2nd & 3rd grades) and (Juniors 4th & 5th grades) as well as opportunities for the girls to do some activities outside of the meetings.  Girl Scouts is also looking for volunteers to help lead our daughter’s.  Please e-mail Amy Saindon at asaindon@bellsouth.net with (GS SEPT 20TH) in the subject line prior to September 17th to let her know if your daughter and/or you are interested and to get a head start on the registration process, this will help to get the most out of our meeting.  In your e-mail please include your name, your daughter’s name, grade level and contact number.  We are looking forward to another great year in scouting!

Girl Scouts
Hello everyone, Girl Scout season is just around the corner!!  There will be a parent meeting on September 20th at 4:30-6pm in the cafeteria of Building B at the school. This meeting is for those who pre-registered in the Spring as well as any new registrations and re-registrations. GS meetings will be held on Tuesday’s directly after school at Cornerstone once a month for each level (Daisy’s - K&1st grades) (Brownies 2nd & 3rd grades) and (Juniors 4th & 5th grades) as well as opportunities for the girls to do some activities outside of the meetings.  Girl Scouts is also looking for volunteers to help lead our daughter’s.  Please e-mail Amy Saindon at asaindon@bellsouth.net with (GS SEPT 20TH) in the subject line prior to September 17th to let her know if your daughter and/or you are interested and to get a head start on the registration process, this will help to get the most out of our meeting.  In your e-mail please include your name, your daughter’s name, grade level and contact number.  We are looking forward to another great year in scouting!

Friday, we will dismiss at 12 noon. Car-line runs the same...wait for the buses. Please remember to circle around the gymnasium driveway, so we do not get too backed up on the main drive.

PE UNIFORM ORDER FORM (6th - 10th grades) - please return order form by tomorrow (Friday, August 19th). The order will be called in to Buckhead Uniforms tomorrow afternoon. PE uniforms are mandatory.


6th - 10th Grade Spring Trip
London-Paris (March 17th-22nd) - please make your interest known by Friday, August 26th so we can provide numbers for Educational Discovery Tours.
Total cost of the trip (meals, hotels, airfare, tours) is $3157. For a copy of the itinerary please check Cornerstone Documents (4th from the bottom in the green margin).


Fasten your seat belts the ride is about to begin....

Please be patient and courteous in car line; it will be slow the first week as everyone gets back into the routine. Please remember there is NO PASSING in car line and proceed slowly with caution as you enter the main drive off of Browns Bridge Road. You are entering your child's SCHOOL ZONE!
There are a lot of small children going into the preschool, building B and C...they can be impulsive and unpredictable.


8th Grade Students
Please bring your copy of The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens by Sean Covey to Ms. Forbus' class on Monday, August 15th. Now that everyone has read the book, we'll begin the year discussing it:)


Open House for 2011-2012 School Year
Open house has been set up so that we can address the grade levels specifically and answer any questions you may have. We ask for your patience over the next 2 weeks as we are working diligently to get everything in order for the new school year. We will provide you with all the information for the upcoming school year and promise to answer any questions you may have at open house.

7th through 10th grades - FRIDAY, August 12th at 4pm.
4th through 6th grades - SATURDAY, August 13th at 1pm.
3rd grade - Saturday, August 13th at 11am.

Kindergarten - Saturday, August 13th at 9am.

Middle School (6th - 8th grades) Girls Volleyball
Cornerstone is partnering again with Fideles for our Athletics Program.
Unfortunately, the team will not be practicing at Cornerstone this year. The Fideles/Cornerstone Team will be practicing at Otwell Middle School.

On a second note...Cornerstone will be hosting a volleyball clinic this fall...stay tuned for details. 

Attention New Cornerstone Families
Clarification on uniform sweaters:
Students must own one burgundy sweater, vest OR blazer for dress uniform days.
For all other uniform days students may wear navy or burgundy sweaters.



Student Bus Registration
Parents please download the Bus Form (found under 'Cornerstone Documents'), fill in and return via email elainefrancel@bellsouth.net or fax to 678-679-0410 by August 5th. Please base your pick up and drop off on last year's schedule. We will be in touch when we finalize this year's schedule.

Pass It Down - Uniform Items
Saturday, July 23rd at 12 noon. Stop by building B to pick up free uniform items.

New student testing (kindergarteners not included) will be Friday, August 12th at 10am. Testing will be a maximum of 90 minutes.
