Homework

Reading at home is always encouraged and will help your child
progress more than any other activity. New vocabulary (essential for
testing success) and repeated exposure to high frequency words will increase
your child's comprehension and enjoyment of many genres of literature.

Some students will have leveled take-home books to read each night.
Please have your child read aloud to someone in a very loving, supportive
environment. The books your child brings home will be at his/her
independent level and will not be difficult to read. Only minimal
assistance should be needed. Once again, the objective is to provide
repeated exposure to new vocabulary and high frequency words so that your
child becomes a better reader. PLEASE TAKE VERY GOOD CARE OF THESE BOOKS
(THEY ARE EXPENSIVE) AND HAVE YOUR CHILD RETURN THEM FOR MORE WHEN THEY HAVE
FINISHED READING THEM.

Once per week, your child will bring home a reading passage with
corresponding questions (much like those on the CRCT). These should be
completed in a quiet place so your child is able to fully concentrate.
These passages will be graded and given to your child's homeroom teacher to
record. There are strategies we are learning in class that your child should
use when completing these pages. You can find more information about these
techniques in the Frequently Asked Questions page.
