What is My Child Learning in Class Guidance Counseling?

All topics are grade and age appropriate and follow the State Curriculum 
Guidelines. This format is a general guideline. If you have questions please 
don't hesitate to ask.

AUGUST- Counselor introduction and orientation on what a School Counselor 
does. Discussion of respect, following rules, peer pressure, and being a good 
student/citizen. Character Education word of the Month is Self-Control: 
exercising authority over one's emotions and actions. Discussion and non-
graded quiz on the 2009-2010 Behavior Code and Discipline Policy handbook. 
This is for 3-5th grades only.

SEPTEMBER- We learn about Stranger Danger and Bully Prevention. What to do 
(and not to do) if confronted in a dangerous situation, tricks we can use to 
stay safe and get away. 4th graders, only, take a Bully Survey (annonymous). 
Character Education word of the month is Tolerance: willing to accept persons 
and opinions that are different from your own.
