New Link Alert! I just added a link to our "links" page that is a great resource for printing math practice drill sheets at home! Check it out!
CRCT NEWS: Directions for logging on to "Georgia Online Assessment System"(OAS) went home in your child's folder today (Friday, Feb. 25th). We also practiced getting online and taking practice tests today during our Computer Lab time. Your child is now ready to take practice tests if you will allow him/her time to get on the computer. The system will grade your child's performance online and give instant feedback to incorrect answers, so it is definitely a great tool to use! (I have also added a link to our "links" page for easy access. The logon ID and password are the same ones they use for AR Testing.) Thanks, parents, for your support in preparing your child for testing!
Welcome back from a Wonderful, Wintry Winter Break! I hope all of you enjoyed your much needed break to play in the snow and relax! Many of you chose to work on a technology project featuring a famous African American! Awesome! I love to hear that my students are excited about doing independent "optional" research projects to share with the class! The great thing about it is that the students have become extremely independent in their ability to do research and require very little if any help from parents in completing a research project! I am so proud of them!
The students have the option to use their research in creating a technology project for the MCSD TechnoExpo as well, but the technology projects can be about any subject(preferably something we have studied in 2nd grade that meets a standard). For more information, please visit the school website. These projects are due on March 17th and must be totally student work. Thanks!
Thank you again parents for everything you did to help make our holiday activities so special! The "Christmas Around the World" Research Projects were awesome! We enjoyed sharing the projects in class and learning about different cultures and holiday traditions from around the world. Completed projects were displayed in the hall for a week or two for all to see. I will also be posting some photos on our website of your children presenting their projects in class. These photos will be included with our holiday activities link which will include photos of everything we did to celebrate the spirit of the season! Photos are coming soon! (Thank you for your patience with the photos as there have been some technical difficulties with "TeacherWeb", our website server.)
Our "Christmas Around the World Celebration" was also a huge success. The children enjoyed sampling the many different treats you sent in and especially enjoyed the "fine dining" atmosphere we created with white tablecloths and our best table manners! We couldn't have had such a wide variety of food to sample without your generous donations, so we definitely appreciate your help!
Our Class Christmas Party was a great time as well! Lots of parents were able to join us to build gingerbread houses! The houses were unique and yummy creations, but the best part was coming together with our parents to share in some holiday fun!
Polar Express Pajama Day was a another special treat and a relaxing, fun way to end the week! Your $1 donations will benefit our Relay for Life Team, so we appreciate your support! You will enjoy the pictures of your children sipping on hot chocolate and eating cookies in their p.j.'s while watching The Polar Express! After the movie was over, we made silver bell necklaces and were very happy to hear the bells ring! It meant that Santa was coming to town soon! :)
Have you heard the news? Our class won the Music Trophy for the Highest Music Achievers of the 1st Term!! Mrs. Geeslin recognizes one class in the lower grades(K-2) and we were chosen!!! We were so excited when it was announced on the Broadcast! We celebrated by turning on the music and dancing around the classroom! Mrs. Jordan took lots of photos! Check out our "Music Trophy Winners Celebration" Photo Gallery link to see how excited we were!
Blake McNeill was announced as our 18th "SOAR Student" because of his accomplishments and hard work with reading and writing skills! Blake is a great student and has an AWESOME ATTITUDE! Congratulations, Blake! Keep up the great work! You can read about what makes Blake so special on our "SOAR Student of the Week" page!
Our class is still so excited about taking Accelerated Reader(AR) Tests! Seventeen(17) students have already earned enough points to climb the Monkey Tree! They are Masson Forte, Hannah Ahuja, Blake McNeill, Dominique Webb, Sarah Punjani, Nico Walton, Mary Kate Gibson, Emily Whitaker, Luke King, Hunt Haralson, Allison Oliver, Genesis Winston, Mark Bayon, Markwan Luttrell, Kejuan Luttrell, Alicia Celestine, and Gavin Moss!
Masson, Hannah, Sarah, Blake, Nico, Mary Kate, Luke, Dominique, Emily, Allison, and Genesis have already climbed up to the 25 Point Club!
Congratulations Masson for being the first one to reach the 50 Point Club! Sarah joined her on 11-6-09 and Hannah joined her on 11-17-09!! Nico, Blake, Mary Kate, Luke, and Dominique have also joined the group!
Masson made it to the 75 Point Club just before the holiday break! Sarah joined her soon after that! Hannah and Nico made it during the 2nd week of February and Mary Kate joined them on February 25th! Way to go guys! Check out our link featuring "AR Monkey Tree Point Clubs" to keep up with who is in which club! (Updates coming soon.)
The most exciting thing happened on February 10th! We had a Valentine exchange and special snacks(thanks to our great parents!) but even better than that was the fact that Masson and Sarah made it to the 100 Point Club!!! It was announced during class and they were awarded with Reading Achievement Gold Medals and so were their monkeys! The girls will get a free book at the next Book Fair from Mrs. Jordan for reaching that awesome goal!
A.R. Point Totals are posted in class and sent home in Parent Connection Folders. However, if you would like to be informed of your child's results every time he or she takes a test, then you will want to get connected with "Renaissance Home Connect". The information was given to parents at Parent Orientation. If you log on to "Home Connect", you will automatically receive emails letting you know how your child does on each and every AR test! It's an excellent way to stay connected with your child's AR progress, so I encourage you to take advantage of the opportunity! Please let me know if you need additional information.
Thank you for encouraging your child to read at home! Please remember to record at least 80 minutes of reading per week in your child's Reading Log!
Finally, thank you to those of you who have joined the Eagle Ridge PTA! Your child has earned a Homework Pass! :) Please let me know if you have joined but did not receive your Homework Pass yet. We hope to have 100% participation from our class. The cost is only $5.00 per member. Grandparents can join too!
We were recently given a printout of parents who have joined so far. Please let me know if you know you joined but do not see your name listed. They are Hannah Ahuja(2), Mark Bayon(1), Masson Forte(1), Luke King(2), Blake McNeill(1), Sarah Punjani(2), Genesis Winston(1) and Allison Oliver(1). Please remember that an adult membership is needed for each child in your family who attends Eagle Ridge in order for us to get 100%.
With all of the budget cuts from the state, we need our PTA more than ever! By joining and supporting our PTA, you are helping your child and our school! Thanks!
