**PARENT HOMEWORK**The lizards laughed when I told them that I was sending
home homework for the parents! Conference week is truly one of my favorite
weeks of the year, because I get to share with YOU how rewarding these past
few months have been, and the growth that your child is already showing!
Please complete the “conference homework” by Friday 10-21.

*Thanks to Dawn O’Neill and Ginger Guinther for being Proofreading Parents
last week, Dina Parker for being our Math Mania parent, Vicky Prada-Carcamo
for helping with copies and laminating, and Sandra Flores for teaching us a
lesson on pollution/recycling AND being our chaperone for our field trip!
*There are two packets being sent home this week, and the homework is going
to be getting more challenging. At NO point should your child stress over
completing these assignments! I would prefer that your child gets in the
habit of returning HW every Monday, but I understand that things happen, so
DO NOT stress over HW! I would like for everyone to attempt the “challenges”
sent home, but they are not mandatory.

*Also, in my reading groups, I send home all sorts of
differentiated “projects.” I tell the kids to turn them in “whenever they
finish.” So, if a book report comes home, it is NOT DUE THE NEXT DAY unless
they are just so excited that they feel like they have to complete it right
away…I don’t want to hinder any excitement over the reading!

*I will be at the Fall Festival this Friday…probably around 7 p.m. I’m
looking forward to seeing everyone there! Don’t forget to check out the
teacher auction tables!

*Please continue sending me schedules of extra-curricular activities if I
have NOT already attended something for your child. I WILL make it to
everyone’s activities before the year is over.

Have a wonderful week!
Miss L.

on the talking though.

I hope that everyone has an awesome week!

Happy Fall Y’all!

I hope that everyone had a super weekend! This week we’ll be continuing the
study of weather, starting money (there are some great web sites under our
math teaching tee on our class web site), and continuing making connections
with our reading. Please ask your genius to re-tell what they have been
reading (this is great for comprehension). I am so glad that everyone
continues to do Raz-Kids! Next up is the IXL Math Site. I will send that
information home soon.

Please note that homework is NOT DUE until the following Monday, and please
use pencil.

Thank you to Vicky Prada-Carcamo for being our Math Mania Monday helper, and
Copy Helper last week. Thanks to Ginger Guinther and Lisa McDonough for being
our Proofreading Parents. It is AMAZING to me how much writing this class is
already doing. Pretty impressive! Please ask your kiddo about their story “If
the Media Center was turned upside down…”

Today, Mrs. Parker taught us “Adventures in Art” about Henri Rousseau. The
geniuses painted jungle scenes using water colors, and turned them into
portfolios to store their artwork! Very cool.

Last day for book orders is this Friday. Please log-in to www.scholastic.com,
parent log-in, our class activation code is J4PFY.

Please note the pink letter going home today in regards to The Cognitive
Abilities Test that will be administered October 5th-7th.

hands” that are hanging in our doorway to help with spelling.

As always, have a great week!

Miss L.

9-19-11
Dear Parents,

*I hope that everyone had a great weekend! We had an awesome Writer’s

learned?

*Thank you so much to Lisa McDonough for being “Math Mania Monday” helper and
copy helper; Amy Mitravich & Ginger Guinther for being our Proofreading
Parents, and Jill Chandler for being the Mystery Reader who brought yummy
smores! The geniuses loved it! Thanks to EVERYONE who came out to cheer the
lizards on at the Boosterthon Fun Run!

*Please make sure that ALL Boosterthon pledges are turned in NO LATER than
Thursday 9/22!

*Book orders are due online by 9/30. Go to www.scholastic.com, parent log-in,
and our class activation code is J4PFY. Please let me know if you have any
questions?

*This week we’ll be studying calendars, months, days etc. We will also be
learning about weather, the 6+1 Traits of writing, reviewing sight words,
and –ug chunks. Sight words: HAD, BUT, WHAT, ALL, & WERE.

*Ask your geniuses about the “doubles song.” It starts like this…”It’s the
doubles baby, let’s go, let’s go. One plus one is two, shoe. Two plus two is
four, more.”

Have a wonderful week!

Miss L.

9-12-11
Dear Parents,

I hope that everyone had a great weekend! I love the Fall weather…my favorite
time of year! Today, we made our awesome inventions just like Benjamin
Franklin, and I got lots of great photo ops! Last week we read the Ish book
by Peter Reynolds, and created our first class book. Everyone will have a
turn to take it home. We “publish” lots of books throughout the year! Also,
our reading bags have arrived, so the students “shop” for books in the book
area. Our reading stamina is going great!

Thank you to Vicky Prada-Carcamo for being our copy helper last week, and to
Mr. James for being our Mystery Reader!

Booster-thon Fun Run is this Thursday, 9/15 from 8:30-9:15 a.m. Please join
us! Siblings are always welcome too! You may meet us in the classroom, or at
the run! Follow the DJ’s music to find us!! It is a fun time! Also, please
let me know if you’d like to help mark shirts as the runners run by?

Our first book order is being sent home. You log-in at www.scholastic.com, go
to book clubs, then parent log-in. Our class activation code is J4PFY. I only
send these home a few times per year, and they are totally optional.

Review all sight words this week (practice lime green pages from Open House
folder if you’d like to get ahead). Focus on: that, was, have, they, with, &
are. The chunk this week is :og. Examples: frog, dog, etc.

We are truly building such a team environment, and the kindness that I see
exhibited towards others makes me so proud of these little cutiepatooties.
I’m seeing them all really take pride in their work, and already the
confidence beginning to soar.

Thanks so much for sending me sports schedules! I can’t wait to surprise the
lizards at their extra-curricular endeavors!

Have an awesome week!
Maria

Dear Parents,

*I hope that everyone had a great Labor Day Weekend! I really missed the

supportive of each other. Please find the Boosterthon info. sent home today,
and log-in for more information.

punctuation. We are still working on our reading stamina, and earned another
star today! The geniuses are enjoying Raz-Kids, and I’m enjoying reading with
them individually.

classroom.

experiment with Coca-Cola and Mentos! I’ll send out an e-mail in case any
parents want to join us. It really is fun, and a great excuse to wear science
goggles!

Today we talked about being mathematicians, and we sang “We got the whole
