Who will be teaching your child?

Welcome to Kindergarten. We are excited you are here! My name is 
Mrs. 
Fortune and I have been teaching for 14 years. I received my 
Bachelor's 
degree in education from the University of Georgia and my Masters 
in 
Education from   Oglethorpe University. Mrs. Nash is the 
paraprofessional in 
our classroom. She has been an excellent paraprofessional in 
various 
kindergarten classrooms for the past several years. We are 
looking forward 
to an enriching year of learning with you and your child.

What are Communication Folders?

A Light Blue Communication Folder will be sent home with your 
child each 
day. In this folder, you will find important communications from 
the school 
or the classroom and papers your child has completed in class. 
Please send 
all communications and money back to school in this folder. The 
folder will 
be checked each and every morning at check in time. Please send 
this folder 
to school each day. Please place ALL communications in this 
folder on the 
Return to School side.

What time does school start?

School starts each morning at 7:50 and dismisses each afternoon 
at 2:15. If 
your child is late to school in the morning, please stop by the 
office and 
sign your child in. Your child will receive a tardy pass to take 
to the 
classroom. Please be sure your child's teachers have information 
regarding 
how your child will be going home. If your child is absent, 
please send a 
written excuse regarding your child's absence. If your child 
needs to leave 
early, stop by the office to sign your child out. Do not come to 
the 
classroom.

What should I do if my child will be going home in a different way?

If there is a change in the way your child is to leave school, 
please send 
this change to school in writing. Unless we receive this notice 
in writing, 
we will dismiss your child in the normal manner.

Can I send something into school on my child's birthday?

If you wish to send in a special treat for the class on your 
child's 
birthday, please send in individual items such as cupcakes, 
cookies, etc. 
Please do NOT send in goody bags. School policy does not allow 
birthday 
parties.

What kind of enrichment activities will my child be participating in?

Your child will participate in either Physical Education, Music, 
or Art each 
day of the week. Each nine weeks we will send you a new 
Enrichment schedule. 
It is important your child dress for P.E. by wearing athletic 
shoes and 
comfortable clothing. Girls should wear shorts under their 
dresses. If for 
any reason your child cannot participate in P.E., please send in 
writing a 
note stating the reason.

Will my child be able to check out books in the school's media center?

Our class will go to the Media Center once a week. Your child 
will be able 
to check out one book for a week. Please remember to return 
library books. 
Your child will not be allowed to check out books if books are 
not returned.

Will my child be working on a computer?

YES! Our class will go to the Computer Lab once a week. Your 
child will 
become familiar with several different computer programs that 
will 
intergrate technology into our curriculum. As well, we have two 
computers in 
the classroom in which each student will be given the opportunity 
to work on.

Your child will be given the opportunity to work on a Smartboard 
in the 
classroom.

Will my child have recess each day?

YES! Weather permitting, the class will have recess outside every 
day. 
Please dress your child according to weather.

Will there be nap time?

Your child will need a clean bath towel to rest on each 
afternoon. Please 
place your child's name on the towel. The towels will be sent 
home each 
Friday and will need to be returned each Monday.

Does my child need to bring a snack to school each day?

YES!!! PLEASE SEND IN A HEALTHY SNACK WITH YOUR CHILD EACH DAY.
Snacks can include items such as apples, oranges, granola bars, 
etc.

How much is the school's lunch?

Lunches may be purchased by the day, week, or month. Lunch costs 
$1.60 per 
meal. Your child may also bring their lunch from home. Please 
send weekly or 
monthly lunch money (check preferred) on Monday mornings in a 
sealed 
envelope with your child's name, teacher, grade, and dollar 
amount on the 
outside of the envelope. Please do not send cash unless you are 
paying by 
the day.
In order to receive your child's lunch choice each day, it is 
important to 
keep track of how much money is remaining in your child's 
account. You may 
request an accounting of your child's account by writing to Mark 
Trott, 
Lunchroom Manager.
Your child will receive a cheese sandwich if their account runs 
out of money.
Parents and relatives are welcome to have lunch with your child 
any day. 
Please meet your child at the door to the cafeteria at our lunch 
time.

What do I do if my child needs to take medicine at school?

Eastvalley has a registered nurse, Ms. Ashley, on duty from 8:30 
to 2:00 
each day. If your child requires medication for any reason, forms 
are 
available through the office. If your child becomes ill during 
the day, the 
nurse will contact you and you may pick your child up from the 
Clinic.
