Who will be teaching your child?
Welcome to Kindergarten. We are excited you are here! My name is
Mrs.
Fortune and I have been teaching for 14 years. I received my
Bachelor's
degree in education from the University of Georgia and my Masters
in
Education from Oglethorpe University. Mrs. Nash is the
paraprofessional in
our classroom. She has been an excellent paraprofessional in
various
kindergarten classrooms for the past several years. We are
looking forward
to an enriching year of learning with you and your child.
What are Communication Folders?
A Light Blue Communication Folder will be sent home with your
child each
day. In this folder, you will find important communications from
the school
or the classroom and papers your child has completed in class.
Please send
all communications and money back to school in this folder. The
folder will
be checked each and every morning at check in time. Please send
this folder
to school each day. Please place ALL communications in this
folder on the
Return to School side.
What time does school start?
School starts each morning at 7:50 and dismisses each afternoon
at 2:15. If
your child is late to school in the morning, please stop by the
office and
sign your child in. Your child will receive a tardy pass to take
to the
classroom. Please be sure your child's teachers have information
regarding
how your child will be going home. If your child is absent,
please send a
written excuse regarding your child's absence. If your child
needs to leave
early, stop by the office to sign your child out. Do not come to
the
classroom.
What should I do if my child will be going home in a different way?
If there is a change in the way your child is to leave school,
please send
this change to school in writing. Unless we receive this notice
in writing,
we will dismiss your child in the normal manner.
Can I send something into school on my child's birthday?
If you wish to send in a special treat for the class on your
child's
birthday, please send in individual items such as cupcakes,
cookies, etc.
Please do NOT send in goody bags. School policy does not allow
birthday
parties.
What kind of enrichment activities will my child be participating in?
Your child will participate in either Physical Education, Music,
or Art each
day of the week. Each nine weeks we will send you a new
Enrichment schedule.
It is important your child dress for P.E. by wearing athletic
shoes and
comfortable clothing. Girls should wear shorts under their
dresses. If for
any reason your child cannot participate in P.E., please send in
writing a
note stating the reason.
Will my child be able to check out books in the school's media center?
Our class will go to the Media Center once a week. Your child
will be able
to check out one book for a week. Please remember to return
library books.
Your child will not be allowed to check out books if books are
not returned.
Will my child be working on a computer?
YES! Our class will go to the Computer Lab once a week. Your
child will
become familiar with several different computer programs that
will
intergrate technology into our curriculum. As well, we have two
computers in
the classroom in which each student will be given the opportunity
to work on.
Your child will be given the opportunity to work on a Smartboard
in the
classroom.
Will my child have recess each day?
YES! Weather permitting, the class will have recess outside every
day.
Please dress your child according to weather.
Will there be nap time?
Your child will need a clean bath towel to rest on each
afternoon. Please
place your child's name on the towel. The towels will be sent
home each
Friday and will need to be returned each Monday.
Does my child need to bring a snack to school each day?
YES!!! PLEASE SEND IN A HEALTHY SNACK WITH YOUR CHILD EACH DAY.
Snacks can include items such as apples, oranges, granola bars,
etc.
How much is the school's lunch?
Lunches may be purchased by the day, week, or month. Lunch costs
$1.60 per
meal. Your child may also bring their lunch from home. Please
send weekly or
monthly lunch money (check preferred) on Monday mornings in a
sealed
envelope with your child's name, teacher, grade, and dollar
amount on the
outside of the envelope. Please do not send cash unless you are
paying by
the day.
In order to receive your child's lunch choice each day, it is
important to
keep track of how much money is remaining in your child's
account. You may
request an accounting of your child's account by writing to Mark
Trott,
Lunchroom Manager.
Your child will receive a cheese sandwich if their account runs
out of money.
Parents and relatives are welcome to have lunch with your child
any day.
Please meet your child at the door to the cafeteria at our lunch
time.
What do I do if my child needs to take medicine at school?
Eastvalley has a registered nurse, Ms. Ashley, on duty from 8:30
to 2:00
each day. If your child requires medication for any reason, forms
are
available through the office. If your child becomes ill during
the day, the
nurse will contact you and you may pick your child up from the
Clinic.
