What we are learning…
Phonics: We will start studying short o word families. We are study all short
vowel sounds and beginning to understand long vowel sounds are made when a
vowel is followed by one consonant and then e (examples: made, take, …)
Sight words: are, big, can
Reading: We are learning how to use what we know to help us understand our
stories better. We are identifying the main characters, settings, and
sequence of events in the stories we read.
Writer’s Workshop: We will continue to write about what we know. We are
working on labeling pictures and writing words to go with our illustrations.
We are beginning to write stories with a main character and setting included.
Math Concepts: calendar exploration, graphing, trading pennies for nickels
and pennies for dimes, showing numbers in a different ways, patterns, writing
and counting numbers to thirty, estimating, combining sets to show numbers,
understanding more and fewer, naming 2-D and 3-D shapes, understanding how to
sort and create pictures with shapes according to their attributes
Social Studies: We will be exploring holidays around the world celebrated at
this time of year.
Science: We will be discussing the difference between night and day. We will
be exploring matter in all its states (solid, liquid, gas)
