Behavior System

                                                             July 29, 2008

Dear Parents,

Welcome to kindergarten at Eastvalley Elementary! To get the year started
in the right direction, we will be implementing a behavior system in the
classroom. The system will encourage positive behavior and will provide an
atmosphere conducive to learning. This plan has been used by other teachers
at Eastvalley and they rave about the success.

The numbers one through five will be posted in the classroom. Everyone will
have a clip with their name on it and will begin each day on the number
three. As we see the children doing positive things such as helping others,
following through with good work habits, using good manners, and working
cooperatively, they can move their clip forward to 4 or 5 (five being an
exemplary day). However, if we see a student making bad choices the student
will be asked to move their clip down to 1 or 2. Each student will have the
opportunity to move up or down on the number scale depending upon their
behavior throughout the day.
If a student moves to…
5- Student will receive special recognition
2- Student looses 10 minutes of recess and receives five minutes in the Stop
and Think chair in the classroom
1-Student looses 15 minutes of playground and receives 5 minutes in the Stop
and Think chair.

If your child earns three or more 5’s with no 2’s or 1’s in a week, your
child will be able to bring home one of our special classroom treasure bags
for one weekend. In the bag, there could be a game, a puzzle, books, or a
white board and dry eraser markers. They will be able to choose which bag
they would like to take home for the weekend.

When the bag arrives home, please be proud of your child for earning it and
have fun doing the activities together! One of the greatest gifts you can
give your child at this point in their life is spending quality time with
them. Make it a special time for you and your child to enjoy each other and
the learning activities. VERY IMPORTANT: Please send the bag back on Monday
in the same condition it came to you in. We only have a few of these bags
and the other children will want to enjoy them.

Each day Mrs. Nash or I will write what number your child’s clip was on in
their agenda under the day of the week. During the first week, we are asking
parents to sign the agenda each night so we know they are aware of the
system and your child’s behavior. After the first week, we will ask each
parent to sign the agendas only on Friday.

Sincerely,
Mrs. Fortune & Mrs. Nash
