How can I help my child be successful in school?

To help your child be successful in school I recommend that your
child use his/her planner daily. I suggest you also review nightly
homework and the planner for any announcements. You may also check teacher
websites for homework and weekly lesson plans. Also, check I-parent
frequently to monitor your child's grade. Contacting teachers with questions or concerns
is always helpful. You can do this by leaving a voicemail or
sending an email.

Do you offer extra credit work?

An actual extra credit assignment is rarely given.
Extra credit points are awarded to those students who do an
exceptional job on any given assignment or homework.
Often tests have extra credit questions to help students improve
their grades.

How is my child's grade determined?

Your child's grade is based on 4 factors which have different
weights. They are:
tests/projects 40%
classwork/quizzes 40%
homework 10%
Benchmark Test 10%.
It is VERY important that your child complete all homework assignments because they can
heavily impact your child's final grade.

What will 7th grade be like for my child?

7th grade is a transitional year. This is the time the students
are no longer considered children with mothering needs. Seventh
grade is the time when children feel their independence and
individuality and want to be empowered. It is also a time when
hormones run wild and emotions can change by the minute.
Students will test parents and teachers alike and consistant
expectations and consequences need to be in place.

What is my homework policy?

Homework is assigned several times a week. Generally it consists
of easy assignments that can be completed in a relatively short
period of time and ARE DUE THE FOLLOWING DAY. Projects/reports
etc. are given longer time to complete but are also due on the
date they are to be turned in. Homework assignments WILL NOT be
accepted after they are due unless the student has been ill or
there is a family emergency. If this is the case, a parental
note is required explaining the reason for the delay.
