About The Principal

Mr. Michael R. Johnson is a native of Augusta, Georgia and has served in the 
public school system for twenty years. He is a graduate of The Academy of 
Richmond County High School (A.R.C.). During his undergraduate studies he 
attended South Carolina State University in Orangeburg, South Carolina, where 
he received his Bachelor of Science degree. He currently has his Master of 
Education degree and a Specialist degree in Educational Administration & 
Supervision. 

For eight years, Mr. Johnson taught middle school science, and during this 
time, he did not limit his service to the classroom. Not only did he serve as 
an outstanding educator in the area of middle school science, but he also 
served as the head football coach, athletic director, and the local science 
fair coordinator. He secured numerous grants that aided in the instruction of 
hands-on activities within his classroom, and he led his football teams to 
district level championships.

Mr. Johnson, during his twenty years of service, has won several additional 
awards which serve as evidence of his commitment to excellence when serving 
students. He was chosen for the following accolades:  Sego Middle School 
Teacher of the Year (97-98), Most Outstanding Young Men of America, and Who’s 
Who Among America’s Teachers Award. To demonstrate his commitment to his 
community, Mr. Johnson was also elected to serve as the President within his 
public service organization, Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. (89-90). He 
continues his outreach to others as a member of Columbia County Georgia 
Association of Educators. 

As a result of his leadership capabilities, Mr. Johnson secured the position 
of assistant principal at Gibbes Middle School in Columbia, South Carolina 
and served in this capacity for three years. For two years, he served as an 
assistant principal at Greenbrier High School in Evans, Georgia.  In July 
2005, he was appointed as Principal of Evans Middle School in Evans, Georgia.

The mission of Evans Middle School is to educate students to become
responsible, productive members of an ever-changing society.
