What type of instruction can I expect my child to receive at EMS?
By using the Georgia Performance Standards as a guide, our teachers work
diligently to prepare learning opportunities that engage and challenge our
students. In our classes, students are given opportunities to participate
in hands-on, technology-rich instructional activities that challenge your
child to retain what is taught and/or construct meaning. Students are asked
to
1) read and comprehend high-level material
2) articulate and record their thoughts through writing
3) create and present various quality products, such as powerpoint
presentations
4) retain content while demonstrating skills.
This is just a snap shot of what EMS has to offer.

What is the best way to communicate with my child's teachers?
Our teachers have email addresses as well as web pages. They also are
provided with an extension and are able to retrieve phone messages during
their planning times during the day. Please feel free to call 706-863-2275
for a list of extensions or visit your child's teacher's web page by
clicking on faculty and staff and then the grade level here at www.
evansmiddle.net.
What is instructional extension and do you have an after school program?
Instructional extension is a program that allows us to offer an after school
program and an in-school remediation/acceleration program. With
instructional extension, our goal is to provide students with additional
instruction so that they may be able to excel in their math or language arts
classes.
Can I sign my child up for the after school program?
At this time, the instructional extension programs that we offer are
designated for students who demonstrate the need for remediation and
acceleration based on their standardized test scores. Invitations to
participate are sent out each year at the start of the program which will be
at the start of October. If your child scored below the state cut off, then
he or she will be invited. Seats available are based upon the funding that
we receive.
If I am interested in becoming a parent volunteer, what should I do?
We are fortunate to have several parent volunteers. Currently, our
volunteers assist in the guidance office, media center, and throughout the
school with our teachers. If you are interested in assisting, please call
706-863-2275 and ask to speak with me personally. More information will be
provided to you upon expressing interest.
If my child experiences a disciplinary infraction, what should I expect?
As an administrator and educator, my goal is to develop the entire child.
We recognize that students may make poor choices; however, we take a strong
stand against those who violate the rules outlined in the Columbia County
Code of Conduct. We utilize official warnings, after-school detention, in-
school suspension, and out-of-school suspension where applicable, but not
necessarily in that order. It depends primarily on the offense. Since some
infractions may result in long-term suspension, expulsion, or the potential
to involve law enforcement, it is imperative that you reveiw the BLUE code
of conduct booklet with your child so that he/she is fully aware of the
consequences of certain behaviors demonstrated at the middle school level.
Should my child have a textbook for each class?
Every student in our school should receive a textbook for each core
subject. If your child has not been issued a textbook in his/her four core
classes within 24-48 hours of their enrollement, please feel free to notify
your child's teacher or me.
