Create a Newspaper You have been taken back in time to the Post-Revolutionary War period. This is a very active time in Georgia’s history. You are a local Newspaper editor working hard to keep your readers informed. Below are the basic requirements for this project. You may work alone, with a partner, or as a small group (3 people). If you choose to work with others, make sure you sign up with me prior to Tuesday. (November 2) 1. Your newspaper must have a name 2. Each article in your paper must have datelines and bylines (where written and by whom) 3. Front Page Article – Must be factual based on the time period. Find an event that occurred between 1777 – 1840 and report it. Make sure to include all the W’s (Who, What, When, Where, Why) –remember your reader knows nothing of this event. You must fully inform them as to what is going on. 4. Advice Column – Choose an event from the timeline in the textbook (chapter 5 or 6). Write advice on how to deal with personal issues (emotional distress, patriotism, etc) this event may create for a youth in Georgia. You may do this in a “Dear Ann” format if you wish. 5. Obituary – Choose two important people from the following: Elijah Clark, Button Gwinnett, Lyman Hall, George Walton, Nancy Hart, Austin Dabney. Make sure to include facts as to why they are memorable. Where were they from, what did they do for Georgia, When were they born, etc. 6. Letter to the Editor – reflect upon the war (Revolutionary) Give three reasons that you supported the war or three reasons you opposed it. (May have more than one letter to the Editor with different viewpoints) 7. Graphics – At least two Advertisements (Research products that may have been sold during this time period) 8. Political Cartoon – this may be original or reproduction (give credit to the original artist) Extra points will be given for additional items. Suggestions: Weather forecasts, help wanted ads, additional obituaries, additional reports by outside sources (World news, national news, etc) Be creative – Have fun Remember – Don’t wait until the last minute to complete the project. Printers break, paper runs out, computers crash – start early and just get it done!
4th9 Weeks GA Studies Project DUE DATE: MAY 7TH Students will create a power point depicting events for each year of their life. For example, if they were born in 1997, that would be the first year of their power point through 2012. They must include5 Georgia eventsandno more than 3 personal events. Mark the GA event with something special so it easy to identify. (Small GA flag, star, etc.) Other events may be state, national or even international. The slide should include the year, a picture of the event and a short description of what the event is about. Grading: It counts as 1 test grade. You can earn a 100 for completing the project with the stated requirements. You can earn the extra credit for adding appropriate music/sound and transitions to your power point. Grading Scale: Introduction slide: 5 pts. _____ Must include name, date, class period. 5 GA slides: 10 Pts. each _____ Must have a picture of the event and a short description of the event. Must have an identifying mark on each of the slides.
