CLASS PROJECT 1st 9 Weeks Ga Studies

GEORGIA COOKIE MAP
You will meet in groups of four-five a week before the actual cookie day.  You must decide within your groups what each person will bring.  Start bringing ingredients in as soon as possible to make sure that all materials are brought in by the date.  Your Georgia Cookie Map will be due Thursday, August 26th.  Each group will need the following required items:

*Cookie dough:  Georgia

*White frosting:  to make decorations stick

*Yellow M&Ms or lemonheads:  Coastal plains

*Green sprinkles:  Piedmont

*Bugles or candy corn:  Blue Ridge

*Cheez-its:  Ridge and Valley

*Chocolate chips:  Plateau

Your group will need to bake the cookie in advance and have it ready to bring in on Thursday morning of the 25th.  Before baking your cookie, form the dough into the shape of Georgia.  There is a map of GA on p. 603 in your GA History book to go by.  (Use the pre-made cookie dough to make it easy!)

During class, the first thing you will need to do is cut the cookie dough into something that looks like Georgia.  (Use a plastic knife.)  Then your group will decorate the cookie according to the regions listed above.   You must then get the teacher and other groups to grade your cookie before you can eat it.  This activity works best if only one bag of food is open at a time.  That way you don’t end up with stale food at the end.  Have fun!

***You may also decorate your cookie with the following optional items as well if your group desires:

*Reese’s-GA cities

*Mint-Atlanta (GA’s capital)

*Twizzlers-Interstates

*Hershey’s kisses-7 Wonders of GA

*Blue sour punch straws-Rivers

*Goldfish-Lakes

*Starburst-Parks

1.       Your newspaper must have a name

4.      Advice Column – Choose an event from the timeline in the textbook (chapter 5 or 6).  Write advice on how to deal with personal issues (emotional distress, patriotism, etc)  this event may create for a youth in Georgia.   You may do this in a “Dear Ann” format if you wish.

5.      Obituary – Choose two important people from the following:  Elijah Clark, Button Gwinnett, Lyman Hall, George Walton, Nancy Hart, Austin Dabney.  Make sure to include facts as to why they are memorable.  Where were they from, what did they do for Georgia, When were they born, etc.
