What are we learning?

3-30-09

Reading - EQ:  How do I learn to look for details in reading?  Why are details important and what can they tell the reader?

We will focus on learning to read for details.  Students will learn why details are important and how it helps them to better understand their reading.

English - EQ: How do I identify and apply correct capitilization and punctuation rules in writing?

Our focus will be on the rules of capitilization and punctuation.  We'll look at some test prep materials that help the students to learn how to identify incorrect use of capitilization as well as correct use of capitilization.  Students need to be able to do this with proper nouns, parts of a letter, abbreviations, dates, and so forth.

We will visit the following site for some interactive fun.

Spelling - Review

Math - EQ:  What is the relationship of numbers when using division?  How do I apply different strategies when dividing such as models, chunking, or space saver division?

We will focus on long division.   I will be showing them a few of those ways.  We'll starts with a couple of concepts called chunking and space saver division.  Later, after the CRCT we'll move on to showing the traditional steps of long division that we all learned as children.  I will teach the traditional steps after the CRCT so don't worry.

Go to this site to learn about Space Saver Division.  You must click on the "Answer Key" to see the explanation.

Science -   EQ:  What are the sources of heat?

We finish our heat and energy unit this week.   We will review and complete a CRCT test prep section of their workbook.
