During the next several weeks, we will be getting ready for advisement/registration for 10th grade. Starting on Monday, March 19th, I will do a series of 19 classroom guidance visits (through English classes) where I go over registration/advisement. At this time, your student should bring home a registration folder. Included in it will be a parent letter explaining the process, a registration form, 10th grade course descriptions, Golden Isles Career Academy (GICA) electives, graduation requirements, and course recommendations made by their current teachers. The power point I show them in class will be uploaded to this website. On March 22 and 28 from 4-7pm I will hold parent/student meetings in our media center to finish filling out your student's recommendations. It is imperative that you come to these meetings. We are not setting specific appointment times in hopes to give you more flexibility. You may come at ANY time during those hours. On March 29th from 4-7, the parent/student meetings will be held at the Golden Isles Career Academy. If your student is interested at anything at all at GICA, please come to this set of advisement meetings, that way you can see the tremendous facility!! Remember, if you choose an elective at Golden Isles Career Academy - it will be a 2 block option: either 1st and 2nd or 3rd and 4th. We do provide bus transportation to and from the Career Academy. Usually the trickiest part of the advisement/registration process is choosing electives. Academic courses are recommended by current teachers, but when it comes to choosing the electives, some students get stumped. One thing to remember, if you have not started your foreign language and you plan on attending a 4 year college, you need to start your foreign language in 10th grade. We ask that you pick 6 elective choices on your registration form and rank them in order of preference from 1 to 6. I have put elective information on my website, under the "Sophomore Elective Choices" icon. I would like for you to start thinking about these elective choices now. I will upload all the necessary forms to look at for registration under the icon "Forms used for 10th grade registration". Please look at this icon soon so you can be informed and prepared! Please make time to come to one of the meetings on March 22, 28, and 29th - at any time between 4 and 7- otherwise, the computer will pick your student's electives!
