Advisement for 10th Grade 2009

: During the next two weeks, I will be going into classrooms to start introducing the process of advisement for next years classes. During this time, I will do a powerpoint on graduation requirements, block scheduling and picking classes for next year. I will be doing this classroom guidance the weeks of February 17th - 26th. At this time you can see a draft of the registration form online. Please note that we need your student to pick out 8 electives. They will be required to take 4 (due to block scheduling) and then they need 4 alternates. I want your student to start discussing electives with you. A printed and on line copy of electives will be available. Also, I would encourage you student to talk to different elective teachers about classes they may want to take. On March 10th at 6:00pm in the GA Auditorium, I will do a parent presentation on the advisement process as well. Please be sure to attend.

The following two weeks (March 10th - 19th) we will be helping your student register for next year's classes. We will do this by pulling your student out of his/her English class and meeting with him/her one on one. At this point we will fill out the registration form for academic and elective classes for next year. ( current teachers will help with core academic recommendations ) Academic classes are easy to pick - your student's current teachers are making these recommendations. As for electives, the counselor has discussed these in classroom guidance presentations. But also you will be getting a complete packet of information home on March 23rd. This packet will have sophomore elective descriptions - so at this point, you too may help your student pick his/her electives. On March 23rd you will receive the YELLOW registration form which requires a parent signature and will need to be returned to your student's English teacher by March 25th. There will be additional information in this packet that you can keep- hopefully everything to help you understand advisement and what your student needs for next year!
