During the next several weeks, we will be getting ready for advisement/registration for 10th grade. On March 15th there will be a parent and student meeting at 7:00pm in the GA auditorium where I will go through the steps for registration. My powerpoint will include graduation requirements, the sequence for your academic courses, descriptions of elective choices and opportunities at the Golden Isles Career Academy. During this meeting, I will hand out a practice registration form for you and your student to start working on - especially choosing electives. On March 29th, during 1st block, your student who may be interested in opportunities at the Golden Isles Career Academy will have a chance to visit the GICA Career Fair in our Wood Gym. Remember, if you choose an elective at Golden Isles Career Academy - it will be a 2 block option: either 1st and 2nd or 3rd and 4th. We do provide bus transportation to and from the Career Academy. Usually the trickiest part of the advisement/registration process is choosing electives. Academic courses are recommended by current teachers, but when it comes to choosing the electives, some students get stumped. One thing to remember, if you have not started your foreign language and you plan on attending a 4 year college, you need to start your foreign language in 10th grade. We ask that you pick 6 elective choices on your registration form and rank them in order of preference from 1 to 6. I have put elective information on my website, under the "Sophomore Elective Choices" icon. I would like for you to start thinking about these elective choices now. During the weeks of March 21st and March 28th, myself and Ms. Love will be coming to 2nd block classes to work on the registration sheets with the students. The academic portion of the form will be filled out and we will work with your student on filling out the electives. Your student will bring home the registration form for you to sign and return promptly. We hope by starting to review and discuss electives now to make this process easier.
