Then, every Friday, your student and you must remember to tear off the top sheet and your student takes it around to every teacher(there are 6 spaces:one for every teacher) Your student should give the sheet to every teacher at the beginning of class (so the teacher has time to fill them all out or attach a grade sheet) and your student must remember to pick it up at the end of class. Then, you ask for it at the end of the day on Friday...and you can choose consequences according to how the progress report looks!! What is the attendance policyexam incentive policy? ATTENDANCE INCENTIVE INFORMATION September 3, 2009 Exam Exemption Incentive As an incentive for high school students to be present each day, exam exemption is a possibility. Students may be exempt from their final semester exams based on the following criteria. Block courses or period courses—duration 90 days; A/B courses— duration 180 days with students attending every other day for a total of 90 days 1. If a student has a course semester average between 90% and 100% and has no more than four (4) absences (excused or unexcused) in the class; or 2. If a student has a course semester average between 80% and 100% and has no more than two (2) absences (excused or unexcused) in the class. Nine week courses—duration 45 days; A/B courses—duration 90 days with students attending every other day for a total of 45 days 1. If a student has a course semester average between 90% and 100% and has no more than two (2) absences (excused or unexcused) in the class; or 2. If a student has a course semester average between 80% and 100% and has no more than one (1) absence (excused or unexcused) in the class. Skinny courses or period courses—duration 180 days 1. If a student has a course semester average between 90% and 100% and has no more than eight (8) absences (excused or unexcused) in the class for the year; or 2. If a student has a course semester average between 80% and 100% and has no more than four (4) absences (excused or unexcused) in the class for the year. The exam exemption possibility does not apply to state-mandated End-of-Course Tests (EOCT). All students must take EOCTs. The state of Georgia mandates that the EOCT exam grade count as a 15% factor in the final course grade of the semester. This policy does not supersede any Advanced Placement (AP) course requirements regarding exams. Georgia Driver Permit or License Parents and students should be aware that school attendance could have a negative impact on obtaining or maintaining a Georgia driver’s permit or license. Georgia law requires school systems to certify that a student’s attendance record permits him or her to have a Georgia driver’s permit or license. If a student has more than ten (10) days of unexcused absences in a semester, the student’s name must be reported to the Georgia Department of Motor Vehicles for Non-Compliance. (O.C.G.A. 40-5-22 a.1) Attendance Information High school students may be absent from a class, regardless of reason, no more than eight (8) days per semester. If a student is participating in a school-sponsored activity (SSA), the student is considered present. If a student is absent from any class nine (9) or more days in a semester for any reason(s), the following procedure applies. 1. If the course is an end-of-course test course, students must pass the state mandated End-of-Course Test. If this is not applicable, the teacher may require that the student demonstrate mastery of the performance standards on the final day assessment. If students fail the final day assessment, they may be required to take an additional standards-based content mastery assessment. The grade received on this exam will count 10% of the final course grade. Students will not fail a course due to attendance; however, a student could fail a course for not demonstrating mastery of the performance standards on said exam. 2. Make-up work requires “time for time.” For example, if a student is absent three consecutive days, the student has three days after s/he returns to complete any make-up work to receive full credit. Students will not receive unlimited time to complete make-up work. 3. Students will have five (5) school days after the day the student returns to school to submit medical or other documentation for the purpose of validating that absences are excused. Such documentation must be submitted by the student or parent to the school’s attendance office. What is the cell phone policy? For Freshman Academy: Students are allowed to have cell phones, but they must be turned off during class and in the school buildings. Cell phones and ipods are permitted outside and for use before and after school and during lunch. If a student is caught using a cell phone at an inappropriate time: 1st offense: phone is taken up and parent may pick up after school in Sidney Lanier office. 2nd offense: we keep the cell phone for a week and then the parent may pick up. 3rd offense: the cell phone is taken to the board of education office. What is the student dress code? G L Y N N A C A M D E M Y 0 9 10 Please Post STUDENT DRESS CODE BOARD POLICY Code: JCDB Students are expected to be clean, neat and appropriately dressed at all times. Clothing must be free of words or symbols that are offensive or demeaning to others. This guideline applies to clothing worn at any school function. Shorts, pants, skirts and dresses worn at school must extend beyond the students fingertips when their hands are held to their side. Splits in skirts must also follow the fingertip rule. Midriffs and undergarments must be covered. (Examples of shirts that would not meet this guideline: halter tops, tank tops, tube tops, fish net tops, muscle shirts, spaghetti straps, etc.). Shorts, pants, and skirts must be worn at waist/pelvis level. Students are expected to comply with safety guidelines. Student dress and appearance are the responsibility of the student and the parent. The dress code will be enforced on a daily basis by all teachers. An administrator or other school district employee will conference with students who report to school inappropriately dressed. In some cases, parents may be called to bring appropriate clothing to the school and/or the student may not be permitted in class until appropriately attired. School-wide exceptions may be made to this policy for such special events as hat days or spirit days. The school principal and/or designee will make the final determination on whether a students dress conflicts with these guidelines. Other exceptions to this rule could be made by the administration based on students medical condition. Dress attire in individual schools may vary based on grade and age appropriateness. Additional guidelines to this policy would be stipulated in an addendum in the schools handbook. What is the check in/check out procedure? When any student arrives late they should come to attendance office now located in the front of the GA building. There, the student will get a note or a phone call will be made to the Freshman Academy Office. When the student walks over to the Freshman Academy, they will have to check in a second time. When a student is checked out for an appointment, the note from the parent or doctor should go to the Attendance Office First thing in the morning, then the attendance office will give the student a note to check out from class later in the day. When the student actually checks out, they should inform the Freshman Academy Office first and then go to the attendance office of GA building to sign out and be picked up parent.
