Scholarships

5/3/11
The Delta Rho chapter of Phi Kappa Theta at the University of Georgia will 
offer 3 scholarships to incoming male freshmen Bulldawgs.  The purpose is to 
promote the four ideals that Phi Kappa Theta is based on:  fraternal, 
intellectual, social, and spiritual.  Applicants are not required to go 
through recruitment or join a fraternity at UGA.  The two-page applications 
are available in the counseling office and are due, mailed by you, by June 
30, 2011.

The Risley Alumni Association is sponsoring a scholarship that requires an 
essay, an interview and proof of acceptance at a college or university.  
Applications are available from Ms. Tammy in the counseling office and are 
due back to her no later than the morning of May 6th.

The Glynn Academy Alumni Association has their annual scholarship 
applications ready.  This award will be given to one GA student who best 
meets the scholarship criteria.  An essay and evidence of acceptance to 
college are requirements.  Pick up the application in the Counseling office 
and return them by May 6th.

The L. Pauline Gooch Scholarship Fund provided by the Savannah Community 
Foundation Fund has a $1,000 scholarship available based on merit and 
financial need.  Applicant must be a GA grad, ranked in the top quarter, not 
be related to any of their scholarship committee members, and able to 
demonstrate financial need.  Please ask for an application from Ms. Cirmotich 
in the guidance office.  Applications are due by April 22nd.

SCHOLARSHIPS FOR ASTHMATICS!!!  There is a scholarship available called Will 
to Win, sponsored by Merck Respiratory.  They will award money in the areas 
of:
 performing arts
 visual arts
 community service
 athletics
 science
Applicants must demonstrate oustanding performance in one of the above 
categories with documentation, have at least a 3.5 GPA, have received at 
least one award related to their entry catefory, and complete the application

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, the nation's oldest sorority established by 
African-American women, is offering a $750 scholarship.  Applicants must have 
a a minimum 2.5 GPA, community service experience, and acceptance to a 
college or tech school.  Application packets are available in the counseling 
office and must be postmarked (mailed by you) no later than April 15, 2011.

Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity is awarding several $500 scholarships to male 
seniors who plan to attend Florida State in the fall of 2011.  Applications 
are available in the counseling office and must be postmarked no later than 
June 1st.

The local chapter of Links, Incorporated is sponsoring a scholarship for 
seniors with a minimum GPA of 2.5, community service for either college or 
tech school.  Application packets are available in the counseling office and 
must be postmarked by April 4th.

The Jacob J Nyenhuis Scholarship that is available through The J9 Foundation 
to graduating seniors at Glynn Academy.  The scholarship is valued at $8,000 
which is dispersed at $2000 per academic year for four years of undergraduate 
study.  The application deadline is April 8, so there isn't too much time

Georgia Electronic Life Safety & Systems Association has a $1,500 scholarship 
opportunity for graduates who have a parent or guardian who is a full-time 
member of the police or sheriff's department or fire department.  Children of 
DHS, FBI and other Federal employees do not qualify, nor do children of 
reserve officers,part-time deputies and retired, deceased or disabled 
employees. State winners will compete for a national $10,000 award.  
Applications are available in the counselors' office; see Ms. Tammy.  
Completed applications are due (mailed by you) by April 15th.

The GM Foundation is sponsoring the Buick Achievers Scholarship Program for 
those who will be freshmen at a 4-year college or university next fall and 
who plan to major in science, technology, engineering, math, business 
administration, finance, marketing, or design, or those who are interested in 
a career in the automotive or related industries.  Application deadline is

Darton College Dean's Scholar Award
Apply to Darton. Pick up the application from Ms. Tammy and follow the 
directions. This is due by March 15th.

The SSI Rotary Club has made their scholarship application available NOW in 
the counseling office.  Seniors may pick one up from Ms. Tammy.  Applicants 
must have at least a 3.0 GPA, and recipients will be selected by a Rotary 
Club committee on the basis of academics, leadership, community service and 
personal character, as well as financial need.  Completed applications are 
due back in our office on Friday, Feb. 25th.

The consulting firm of AES Engineers is committed to continuing its support 
of higher education by providing scholarships to deserving students.
 
To be eligible the student needs to answer one of the essay questions that

Our belief is that achieving a high grade point average should not be the 
only criteria for determining who deserves to be helped. For that reason we 
are offering a scholarship that will be awarded on the basis of character, as

Here are some new scholarship opportunities:

Best Buy is offering 1,200 scholarships of $1,000 each.  Apply online at 
www.at15.com or www.bestbuy-communityrelations.com through Feb. 16, 2011.

Okefenoke Rural Electric membership Corporation (OREMC) will award $1,000 to 
10 students to students who reside in one of 8 counties; Glynn County is one 
of them.  They also will submit applications to the Walter Harrison 
Scholarship competition for students who li9ve in a household served by or an 
employee of OREMC.  Applications are available in the counseling office and 
the deadline is Mar. 7.

The Military Officers Association of AMerica is awarding a one-year 
scholarship of $2,000 to a college-bound student who has or has not 
participated in ROTC.  The student will be evaluated based on grades, test 
scores, activities, honors, and an essay.  They will also be conducting 
personal interviews.  Applications are available in the counseling office and 
the deadline is Mar. 1.

The Retired Educator Association is offering a scholarship to one of our 
graduating seniors who is planning on majoring in education in college.  The 
amount of the scholarship will be dependent on their fund-raising efforts.  
Last year's scholarship was worth $700.  Applications are available in the 
counseling office and need to be completed and turned in prior to Mar. 1.

USA Funds Scholarship
USA Funds will award $1,500 scholarships to students with economic need.  Up 
to 50% of these awards will be for those who are ethnic minorities or 
physically disabled.  They will accept applications online at 
www.usafunds.org/scholarship between Dec. 15, 2010 and Feb. 15, 2011.

Got Milk? Scholarship
The Scholar Athlete Milk Mustache of the Year (SAMMY)Award Program is under 
way.  Competition is nation-wide and will be based on academic excellence, 
athletic excellence, leadership, and community service.  Please feel free to

UGA Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity Balanced Man Scholarship
This fraternity is sponsoring 3 scholarships for men entering UGA next fall.  
Winning the scholarship doesn't obligate the winner to join the fraternity.   
Applications are available on their website at www.sigepuga.com after Jan. 15 
and are due by May 1.

Plum Creek Community Scholarship Program
If you live in Glynn County and are entering a 2 or 4 year college or 
university next fall (or a tech school) you can apply for this $1,000 
scholarship by going to their website at

Jan. 25.

Burger King Scholars

The College of Coastal Georgia scholarship applications are due Nov. 30th!

Abbott & Fenner Business Consultants have a $1,000 scholarship available.  
The deadline is June 18, 2011 and you will be required to completed an essay 
on a topic ;you will find of the scholarship page of their website, which is
http://www.abbottandfenner.com/scholarships.htm.

Kentucky Fried Chicken has a scholarship worth up to $20,000.  Applicants 
must have a minimum GPA of 2.75, enroll in a 4-year college degree program 
(bachelor's), be a U.S. citizen or legal resident, and demonstrate financial 
need.  Applications are being accepted on line at www.kfcscholars.org between 
Dec. 1, 2010 and Feb. 9, 2011.

Julian & Jan Hester Memorial Scholarship
This $1,000 scholarship is sponsored by the Community Bankers Association of 
Georgia.  Julian Hester was a CEO of the organization and his daughter, Jan, 
died in an auto accident while a senior at UGA. The purpose of the 
scholarship is to promote community banking and to pass on the positive 
qualities that father and daughter exemplified.  Applications are due April 
1, 2011.  Hard copies are available in the counseling office or you can check 
the website at www.cbaofga.com or call Ally Heeley at (800) 648-8215.  If 
interested in applying, please email me and I will send you a list of the 
participating banks in our community, as they will need to sponsor all 
applicants.

The BigSun Organization is offering $500 scholarships to young athletes.  The

Georgia Farm Bureau Scholarship for Agriculture Majors
If you will be majoring in agriculture or a related field you may be eligible 
to win a scholarship between $750 and $3000.  Students' parent or legal 
guardian must be a member of a county Farm Bureau in Georgia as of Sept. 1, 
2010.  This usually means that the parent has a Farm Bureau insurance policy 
of some sort.  Applications are available in the counseling office and the 
deadline for submission is Feb. 25, 2011.  Or, you can get an application on 
line at www.gfb.org.  Applications must be signed by the Farm Bureau 
president in your county.  Only 4 applications per county can be submitted.

Marshland Credit Union Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship is for $1,500 and may be awarded to 3 graduates, one of whom 
plans to attend the College of Coastal Georgia. Applicants must either be a 
member or the son or daughter of a member of Marshland Credit Union.  
Applicants will be selected on the basis of academic achievement, school 
citizenship, and community and school involvement.  Applications are 
available in the Counseling office and the packet also requires 2 letters of 
recommendation an official transcript, including test scores, and proof of 
acceptance for post-secondary studies.  The applications are due by Feberuary 
15, 2011.  PLEASE MAIL THEM TO THE ADDRESS ON THE COVER LETTER OF THE 
APPLICATION.

Gates Millennium Scholars Program
This highly competitive scholarship opportunity is for a minority student 
with excellent grades in a rigorous academic curriculum and top SAT or ACT 
scores.  The family must be eligible for the Pell Grant as determined by this 
year's FAFSA report. What this means is that the family must be low income, 
so we're probably talking under $30,000 annual income.  To determine if you 
might be Pell Grant eligible, fo to www.fafsa4caster.ed.gov.  I must nominate 
this applicant, so if you think you're eligible, please see me.

Wendy's Heisman Scholarship
This nation-wide scholarship focuses on academics, athletics, and 
citizenship. Students can apply at www.wendysheisman.com.  Someone at school 
familiar with your academic and athletic profile must review your application 
before it's final.  The application is due by 10/3/10, and you must ensure 
that your reviewer compeltes their review of your application by 10/5/10.  If

ROTC scholarship
To apply for an ROTC scholarship you should have a 3.5 GPA in a CP curriculum 
and good leadership experience.  Go to https://www.rotc.navy.mil/ to apply on 
line.

Auburn University Scholarships
If you apply for admission to Auburn by their priority deadline of Dec. 1, 
2010, you will be considered for Freshman and general scholarships 
automatically.  Be sure to complete the FAFSA by Mar. 1 as well.  For
