On what days does my child attend Physical Education?

We are on a six day rotation this school year so there are no certain days designated as a PE day.
Please know that your child does have PE every other day. It is best that your child wear tennis
shoes each and every day!

How can my child participate in the lunch program?

Each child has a lunch ticket and it works like a debit card. You send in a check or cash and the money is deposited
into your child's lunch account. Each time your child purchases lunch, money is deducted from his/her lunch account.
A notice is sent home when child's account is getting low on funds. You child can bring a lunch from home and still
purchase milk if desired. This can also be deducted from the lunch account. If you feel that your child would qualify
for a free or reduced lunch, please let us know and we will send you the required paperwork.

Our team will plan to meet with most parents two times during the school year. If you feel a conference is needed at any
time, please just send a note or email and our team will be happy to meet with you.

What do I do if my child's transportation home changes?

Please send a note if your child's transportation is changing. We can not make changes without a note or
call from the parent. Please do not email the changes. There are days when I do not get to check email
until the students leave for the day.

What types of assessment do you use to find out if my child is meeting the standards?

I am required to assess your child throughout the school year. The state mandates that I administer the CRCT in April
to every student. The goal is that your child acquires all standards by the end of his/her 4th grade year. The county
requires that your child participate in benchmark assessments three times a year using AIMSweb. This will ensure that
reading and math skills are remaining on grade level at all times. Below grade level performance requires that the
student be progress monitored frequently to ensure that adequate progress is being made.

What do I need to do if my child is out sick or is out due to another reason?

When your child returns to school, it is very important that you send a note stating why your child has been out. I must keep up
with excused and unexcused absences. The following reasons are considered to be "excused" absences:

1. Personal illness
2. Serious illness or death of an immediate family(immediate family includes parents/legal guardians, grandparents,
siblings, and stepfamily)
3. Special and recognized religious holidays recognized by their faith
4. Mandated order of government agencies
5. Registration to vote (limited to one day)
6. Emergencies which reasonably necessitate absences from school
7. Special events which reasonably necessitate absences from school as listed below:
• Post-secondary education visits to colleges or universities beyond 50 miles
• Chamber of Commerce Youth Leadership events
• Participation in events or programs sponsored by national organizations, colleges, or universities
• Any other special event recommended and approved by the school principal.
8. Days missed from school to visit with a parent or legal guardian prior to his or her deployment to or during leave from
an overseas assignment to a combat zone or combat support posting, up to a maximum of 5 school days per school year.
Permission to be excused for an absence due to a special event listed above must be submitted in writing to and approved by the
school’s administration prior to the student’s absence. Requests to be absent for special events not listed above require written
notification to and approval by the school’s principal prior to the absence.

Upon a student’s 2nd unexcused or 5th excused absence in a semester for illness as verified by a parent note, the school will
notify the student’s parent/guardian in writing of the consequences and penalties associated with school absences in accordance
with Policy JBD. All absences beyond the fifth excused absence for medical reasons require an original medical excuse signed by
a health care professional.

Upon a student’s 3rd unexcused or 7th absence from school in a semester without appropriate documentation, students under the
age of 16 will be reported to the appropriate legal authority for investigation and possible referral to the legal authority
having jurisdiction over such matters.

School officials will maintain a list of referrals made to the appropriate legal authority using the Referral to Law Enforcement
Log and will continue to monitor student absences. For each second unexcused absence following a report, a subsequent referral
shall be made to the appropriate law enforcement agency.
