As many of you know, this is my first year in 4th grade. I taught 2nd grade
one year and kindergarten for twenty-three years. Last year, I decided I was
finally ready for a promotion. Dr. Holton graciously granted my request.
Asking to come to 4th grade has brought many changes, both at school and
home. One of the biggest changes is that I now have a total of eighty-seven
students rather than twenty-one. I am now responsible for one subject area
rather than four, which I love language arts. Being able to see twenty-eight
new faces every ninety minutes is an exciting challenge. Our 4th graders
change classes during the day. They are expected to learn to get themselves
organized and take responsibilty for getting and keeping their things
together. The pace of 4th grade is quick due to the many standards we are
required to teach. I'm loving 4th grade!
I am teamed with Mrs. Bush-Miller and Mrs. Daley. Mrs. Bush-Miller teaches
Math and Mrs. Daley is responsible for Science and Social Studies. I'm crazy
about my team! I can promise your child will thrive in 4th grade due to the
support s/he will receive.
Born in Richmond County, at the age of thirteen my family moved to Columbia
County. It was the smartest decision my parents ever made! I attended 7th
grade at Evans Elementary. In 1976, Evans only housed 6th and 7th graders.
After leaving EES, I then went on to Evans Middle and Evans High School. I
graduated in 1982 from the new Evans' Comprehensive High School. A big name
for a great school! As you can see, I am truly a product of the Columbia
County School system. After graduating from Evans High School in 1982, I
attended Georgia Southern University where I earned a degree in Early
Childhood Education. From experience, I knew the arts were an essential
element to a good education. I attended Lesley University from 1999-2001 to
earn my Masters' in Creative Arts in Learning and Instructon. I truly believe
the arts allow every child to be successful in the classroom due to the fact
that all learning styles are addressed.
This is my 25th year of teaching in Columbia County. I have been honored with
the title "Teacher of the Year" twice. In 2004-2005, I was named one of
Columbia County's top 5 teachers. My first fourteen years of teaching were
spent at Evans Elementary, my old stomping ground. My last eleven years have
been spent at Greenbrier Elementary School, where I have had the opportunity
to work with incredible administrators, fabulous teams of teachers and
fantastic paraprofessionals. All are so willing to Go Beyond Excellence(GBE)!
When not at school, I love spending time with my family. I have been married
to my fabulous husband Randy for 26 years. I have two incredible
sons, Aaron and Sean. They are both married to exceptional ladies to our
family. Aaron and Jenni have a beautiful little princess named Emmi. Yes, I
am a proud grandmother! Just call me "Honey"! I love to travel, go to the
movies, paint and bake when time allows. As James Stewart said, "It's a
Wonderful Life!" I look forward to sharing my love of life with
your child this school year. At Greenbrier Elementary you will find that
we "smile and move", which creates an incredible learning atmosphere!
School should be an exciting place and learning experiences should be
memorable. I believe that every child can learn and should be given the
opportunity to develop his/her strengths. It is my goal to treat every child
in my classroom the way I would want my own boys to be treated ... with
respect.
I want each and every day in my classroom to be a new experiences for the
students that I teach. It is my belief, "In life, we reap what we sow."
With this in mind, I continue to plant the seeds of knowledge and the
love of learning in hopes that our future will be a promising one.
