HELLO AND WELCOME TO MY CLASS!

Coming to 4th grade brings with it many changes. One of the biggest changes
is that 4th graders will be changing classes in the middle of the day. They
are expected to learn to get themselves organized and take reponsibility for
getting and keeping their things together. The pace of 4th grade is quick as
we have many standards to cover and the students are now exposed to Social
and Science everyday.

I am teamed with Mrs. Marie Marshall. She teaches Math and Science and I
teach Language Arts and Social Studies. This is our 4th year teaching
together. Before that I co-taught with her as the Special Education Resource
Teacher at GBE.

As a child I was a Columbia County student opening Martinez Elementary and
South Columbia Elementary as new schools and I went to Evans High School that
used to stand where Home Depot is today. When I was in the 9th grade my
family moved and I graduated high school in Atlanta. I will always consider
Columbia County as my home! I have a lot of history here and some very deep
roots.

I always wanted to teach, but married, had a family, and worked as a medical
transcriptionist for many years. When I was 32 I decided it was time for me
to prepare myself to do what I had always wanted to do. With the support of
my wonderful husband and family I was able to become a teacher and started
teaching at the age of 38. It wasn't easy, but I did it! I went to Georgia
Southern University for both my B.S.Ed. and Master's degrees in Special
Education. I certified in General Education through Augusta State
University.

I began teaching in 1993 and have always worked in Columbia County. For
thirteen years I was a Special Education teacher and taught children with
many types of disabilities from ages 3 to 21. I will always have a special
place in my heart for children with special needs. However, in 2005 I made a
decision to move into the general education classroom and have taught 4th
grade since then. I began teaching at Greenbrier in 2002. Before that I
taught at Evans High School, Riverside Elementary and Stevens Creek
Elementary. I love teaching 4th grade and I love teaching with
Mrs. Marshall!

When not teaching, I love to spend time with my husband, three sons and
their wives, and our four beautiful grandchildren. They are the sunshine in
our lives! We have two grandsons and two granddaughters. Life just doesn't
get much better. We look forward to more grandchildren in the future! When
I am not with them I usually have some type of redecorating project going on
at my house. I am an HGTV addict and a do-it-yourselfer!

My Mission

I hope to help my students develop into respectful, responsible individuals
who have a love for learning new things.

"They will not care how much you know until they know how much you care!"
