I love middle schoolers. I think about the 1500 or so students who have
walked through my classroom door in the last seventeen years and the
challenge it has been to meet them where they are emotionally, physically,
as well as academically. I continually look for opportunities to encourage
them individually and to build self esteem. I keep my ‘radar’ up for those
teachable moments where I can instill values that will strengthen their
character for a lifetime.
I sponsor J.A.M. (Jesus and Me) which is a club open to all students who
desire to start every Friday with prayer and devotion at school. We hold
after school JAM rallys occasionally and invite a band, a guest speaker, and
have refreshments and door prizes.
On a personal note, I am celebrating my 21st wedding anniversary this
August. My husband gets the credit for me being in the classroom as he is
the one who encouraged me to become a teacher. My oldest daughter, Megan, is
a freshman at Augusta State University, and Kaley is an 8th grader
here at GMS. My girls are very bright spots in my life.
Some of my favorite things are rice krispie treats, sunsets, and relaxing
in my hammock after supper. I also enjoy hanging out with my girlfriends,
playing tennis, and being a member of this super faculty!
Being creative, fostering critical thinking, and making learning a real
world experience enables my students to learn for life. This is our class
mission.
Our class moto is by Ralph Waldo Emerson- "Nothing great was ever achieved
without enthusiasm."
