| Welcome to writing!
Throughout the year, we will explore grammar, usage, writing,
spelling, speaking, listening, research, and study skills using the CCBOE
curriculum guide. We will begin learning writing skills that will enhance
each of our pieces of writing. Punctuation, sentence structure, transitions,
and word choice will be introduced. Through the writing process, we will
focus on persuasive essays, expository essays, narratives, and poetry.
We will incorporate journal writing, daily oral language skill
building, spelling, and writing assignments into the lessons each week. The
students are encouraged to divide their writing notebooks into five sections:
journal/DOL, grammar/spelling, writing, homework, and graded papers.
Journals/DOL will be checked for completeness. Quizzes and spelling tests
will be given weekly. Tests and final writing assignments will be given
every two weeks.
