Where is the SCIENCE book? Do I need to bring the AGENDA/PLANNER everyday?

Your child must bring the NEW EARTH SCIENCE book to class each day. Also
Your child MUST bring the AGENDA/PLANNER to class everyday. Important
subject and school information should be recorded in the AGENDA/PLANNER
EVERYDAY. The planner is so very important for both student's and parents.
This is a daily reminder of what is going on in science class: homework,
tests, quizes, projects, weekly averages, and notes from school to home/home
to school. PARENTS, PLEASE LOOK AT YOUR CHILDS PLANNER EVERYDAY!!!

How ofter do I need to study if I do not have homework?

You need to study for your next days class even if you do not have homework.
You will not have any time at school to do homework, this must be completed
at home. If grades start to slip, then you will need to study more! Study
everyday and you will be able to make contributions in class!

How often will I have quizes or tests?

All quizes/tests will be announced on the Monday of the week of the
quiz/test. I like to give these on Fridays, unless that day is a holiday,
then the quiz/test will be on Thursday. If students are NOT ready, these
will be postponed until the next week. I never give quizes/tests on a Monday!
Keep following my daily web page for any updates.

When will we have labs in science?

We will try to have at least 3 labs a week. If students stay on task and do
what is required, then lab time will be a great learning experience for
everyone.

What is the make up time for missed labs/science work?

Student MUST MAKE UP MISSED LAB THE VERY NEXT DAY,since lab time takes much
time for me to set up. I cannot give lab make-ups past the next day. Missed
science work has a time limit of two days per each day missed from school.
Please remember, it is your child's responsibility to ask me for the work
missed!

What if my child misses one whole week, due to sickness.

There will be plenty of time to make up work missed. Your child might have
to make up missed lab/labs by coming to school early or staying later. E-
mail me if this doesn't fit in with your schedule. I'll work with you.
Please remember that the Code of Conduct book states that for every excused
one day of school missed your child has two days to make that work up.

Can my child have extra help if he/she is behind in science?

I am at school almost everyday before 7 AM. If there is a need for extra
help, then this is a great time. I need to know the day before so I can give
your child a pass to come to my room at this time. Students must have a hall
pass to come to any teachers room in the mornings for help! I will offer
tutoring two days a week starting in September on Tuesday's and Wednesday's.
A letter will be sent home with this information.

Is there any extra credit work my child may do to bring up grades?

I do not give extra credit work!! We go over all study material each day.
All quizes, pop quizes, test information comes directly from our 6th grade
Earth Science book. If you see grades going down, jot a note in the
planner for me to see. Please write your note large enough for me to see!
Also, please be aware of your child's study habits. If you do not help at
home then it is very hard for me to catch them up at school. Also, keep
checking I-Parent for your child's updated grades each week!

May parents call the office to set up appointment times to discuss concerns?

Please call the office to set up an appointment as soon as there is a need.
Do not wait until your child is falling behind in science to ask for help.
The times that I may see you are from 7:00-7:15 and during our 6th grade
planning. Please DO NOT JUST SHOW UP AT THE CLASSROOM DOOR DURING
INSTRUCTION! MAKE AN APPOINTMENT THROUGH THE FRONT OFFICE, PLEASE!! WE
CANNOT SET UP APPOINTMENTS, THIS MUST BE MADE THROUGH THE FRONT OFFICE.
WE WILL HAVE PLENTY OF TIME FOR YOUR CONCERNS IF YOU MAKE AN APPOINTMENT AS
SOON AS THERE IS A NEED!

How do I find my child's science average when I do not see any science papers?

I do not write averages in the planner/agenda. I try to grade papers ASAP
and record the grades in I-Parent. I-Parent is a great tool to view how
your child is doing in each class at anytime! Also, check planner/agenda
DAILY for important information!

--------------------------------------

Where are all my child's science papers located?

As soon as your child's science papers are graded, these papers are
returned, recorded in his/her science notebook on a grade sheet, and clipped
in that same notebook. All science papers must be clipped in this notebook.
