Curriculum Connections Question for October 19:
Challenge: Can you find the longest "B" Word and "S" word?
Bring your answers to school and we will compare to see who
has the longest word!!
Happy October!! I can't believe how fast the days are flying!! Take a look
below to see what we will be covering in October!
Writing:
How can I turn a small moment into a story?
How can I add more detail to my writing?
How can I be more descriptive?
We are working hard in writing to stretch out our words (ask your child about
how we use bubble gum to stretch out our words!) in our stories and get some
begininning/middle/and end sounds. As the month continues we will read the
books "When Sophie Gets Angry" and "Fancy Nancy" to expand our stories with
more detail and "expensive" words.
Math:
How can I compare numbers?
How can I show numbers?
How can I share a set equally?
Numbers! Numbers! Numbers! That is the topic of the month in math. We will
practice practice practice counting, comparing, and sharing numbers. We will
use the words more/less or fewer/ and equal to compare numbers. Have your
child compare sets of objects at home using these words! We will also learn
to share a set of objects equally into two or three groups without having any
extra.
Social Studies:
How can I have good character?
Who are the helpers in our community?
Why do we celebrate Columbus Day?
We will begin the month discussing character traits such as responsibility,
trustworthy, personal best, caring, and cooperation. We will then transition
to community helpers. In discussing community helpers we will discuss the
importance of the character traits to that person's job. There will be a
summative project toward the end of the month to finish out this unit. Please
check back for more details. Also this month we will celebrate Columbus Day
and learn about it's importance as a national holiday.
Science:
What tools can I use to observe and measure?
We will be taking a deeper look into fall with magnifying glasses and balance
scales. We will have some fun science centers measuring pumpkins, sorting
leaves, observing leaves, and using non-standard measurments to observe the
similarities and differences in leaves.
Phonics:
What sounds do the letters make?
We will review the letters and sounds Aa/Bb/Cc/Ss/Mm/and Nn
