What is the late work policy again?

Late work is not acccepted in Magnet Biology.

In Regular Biology & Physics, the policy includes 1 day at which
the assignment earns
50% credit at most. If we have grade the assignment in class,
the work will
not be accepted for late credit. Be careful with labs &
projects which count a
lot!!

What is I have printer problems? Are projects & labs accepted late?

See the policies above. The due date on a project the is final
date it can be turned in. Projects may always be turned in
early. In an
emergency, you may use the printer in my room before or after
school. This is in an emergency!!! Do not get in the habit of
priting your assignements in my room. You should also not be
printing things from other classes on my printer.

I have a printer & computers in my room. You are welcome to use
both. You
may use teh printer before & after school & during lunch. Do
not expect to
come to class & print as class begins.

May I play games on your computers on the laptops?

No. Due to problems with gaming from past students, I now have
to say no one
can use computers under my supervision for personal gaming.

Is extra credit available?

Yes, extra credit is offered almost all the time. Students may

credit for a variety of reasons. Only so much credit may be
earned each 6
weeks & it is posted at the end of the 6 weeks. See the "
Announcements" section
for up-to-date extra credit options.

How can I get extra help outside class?

my website to complete the assignment.

What if a student does not have the internet or a printer at home, can he/she still complete webquests?

Yes, I give students several days to complete webquests. They
are reminded they can use my room before & after school & during
lunch. The Media Center is also open until 6:30 on Tuesdays.
For most of these assignments (especially in physics & regular
biology, I have given a full class period on the computer to
complete the assignment.)

Why is Mrs. E so picky about copying on lab grades? And what counts as

Copying is very prevalent in todays schools. Kids have been
allowed to copy & don't see anything wrong with it. Teachers
have learned either to "credit" assignments or not grade as much
daily work. The problem is this for example, they copy the
physics problems & then can't work through them by themselves.
With every test I have students who did the assignments (like
make A's on the problem solving part of the homework) but cannot
do ANY of the math on the test. This is because they are copying
answers from others. I do not allow this and here's why. The
most difficult part of the Graduation Test is the Science Test.
If students cannot past this test, they cannot graduate. This
test is primarily Biology & Physics. If I fail to hold students
accountable for learning the informaiton I teach, if I allow them
to copy the informaiton & give them A's for doing so, I am
setting them up to fail this test & therefore; not graduate.

Believe me it takes a tremendous amout of time to read & make
notes on all their work but that's what I do & that's why I catch
copying when others may not.

Here's what I tell students about activities & labs related to
their work. The data will be the same. I expect that. Graphs,
charts & tables may be the same. The hypothesis may be the same
or it may be different. Calculations may be the same for group
data in physics. BUT individual answers to questions, error
analysis, concluding paragraphs/answers & the written sentences
SHOULD BE THE STUDENT'S INDIVIDUAL IDEAS! THESE SHOULD NOT BE
GROUP ANSWERS! Note: I require sentences for all my labs.

The 1st time & catch copying I give a warning to the student &
record it in my discipline log. The second time (and all other
times), a O results, I contact the parent& may or may not send a
referral. It depends on the situation.

How do I study for the End of Course Test?

There are several ways & I encourage students to study in a way
that is best for them. Here are come options.

a) Go to my links & take the practice quizzes under USA Test
Prep. Ask me for the password & user name.
b) Go to my links & study both the tutorials & practice quizzes
on the Ga Testing Site. Focus on the Biology EOCT.
c) Go to Magnet Biology Documents & either read or download a
copy of my EOCT Review Guide. Use this to determine the points
you needs to review & highlight these in your notes.
d) Check out a Biology Course Overview Packet from Mrs. E & read
over an entire biology course. Make notes on topics you need to
review.

You'll have the opportunity to review old tests & play review
games in class before the test. Rememeber it counts 15% of your
grade for the semester.
