Magnet Biology Homework

THINGS TO KEEP IN MIND: 

  (A) Study Sessions the week of Nov 9:  Fri am               
               ((PM = 3:30-4:30 & AM = 7:45 to 8:15))

     YOU SHOULD BE REVIEWING YOUR NOTES AT LEAST EVERY OTHER DAY!!!


                     
  (B) Assignments:

MON 9: Read Dr. Massengale's power points: Bacteria & Viruses .  Answer 
questions on study guide by tomorrow.  Your groups 2525 Activity should be 
completed & ready to turn in by Wednesday + Test most likely this Friday 
over Taxonomy, Plants, Bacteria & Viruses 

TUES 10: 

WED 4: 
THURS 5: 

FRI 6: 















EVOLUTION GROUP PRESENTATIONS: 
-Should last about 10 minutes (You'll be cut off at 15).
-Entire group should be present unless excused.
-No games, power points, catalogs or magazines will count as your 
    presentation ALTHOUGH they may be incorporated into what you    
    present.(Ask me if in doubt.)
-Hard copy or flash drive must be turned in at time of presentation.
-Are Not accepted late (No excuses. Plan ahead.)
-Have grade sheet ready with all group members names already on sheet.
-Cited Sources due from all participants.

(( C)) Information you are to know:  “Origin of Life” ppt by Dr. Massengale

a)	Read through the “Origin of Life” ppt on Dr. Massengale’s website.  

b)	Note: She also has ppt questions if you’d like to download them.  
This would be helpful but you are not responsible for turning in the answers.
c)	Make sure you can answer the following questions.

1.	What is spontaneous generation?
2.	What are examples of spontaneous generation?
3.	Who disproved spon. Generation?  Explain his experiment.
4.	What does Leeuwenhoek have to do with spon. Generation?
5.	Describe Pasteur’s experiment & his contributions to our current 
theory of the origin of life?

d)	You will be given a chance to ask me about the questions in class.  
You may also use Chapter 14 in your book for information.











Tues Read chap 10
Wed: Internet Assignment Karyotyping Activity:

1) Go to my link on the Karyotyping activity.
2) Describe the purpose of a karyotype. 
3) Complete "Your Assignment" & include all answers as you assign patients 
to the correct disorder.
4) Paraphrase (own words) Turner's & Down's Syndroms.
5) Look at the vocabulary lists.  Write 4-8 vocabulary terms you think you 
might have trouble remembering.  (Use only the tems we are studying in Chap 
10 & 11.)

Test over chap 10 & 11 next wed.

























(( C)) NOTE: Students should be reviewing information daily (or at least 
every other day vs studying the night before a test/quiz!  

"Are You Keeping Up?" quizzes may appear at any time........


((D))Preparing for Your Senior Magnet status: 

Guidelines for Annotated Bibliography due _FRI 2-13__:
a) Use accepted font posted under announcements.
b) No more than 2 internet sources accepted & they must be specific & 
reputable sources.  1 "real" book should be used if possible.
c) A specific topic related to Cells, Characteristics of Life or Genetics 
must be used.
d) Yes, that is approximately 150 words or 5-8 sentences for each source.
e) List the source with the individual annotation so I don't have to figure 
out what goes with what.
f) Plagerized information will receive a zero.
g) Don't forget to add the title to your paper.
