Drill Team

Although the school year is almost over, the LEGION has 2 performances this weekend and 2 after school is out.  All LEGION members and their parents are invited to attend.  Please see the LEGION Commitments on the "Handouts" tab for more information. 
 
Three (3) practice days until "The Nationals".  This is a busy week.  ALL cadets going to The Nationals must have their uniforms dry-cleaned in a garment bag and ready for inspection by Tuesday, 29 Apr 08.  No excuses.  Bring in all items with the uniforms to include:  cleaned shoes, black socks, tie/tab, plain white t-shirt/camisole, beret, Garrison Cap, belt with shined brass, and all awards and insignia.  Bring your clean  windsuit and LEGION t-shirt with appropriate shoes and socks. Cadets wear windsuit on Thursday for travel.
 
Bring all personal items to school on Wed.  We will stay at the school.  Remember your sleeping gear and personal hygiene items to include toothpaste and deordorant.  You will need a washcloth and towel on Wednesday evening.  Dinner at the school. Be prepared to practice.  Get uniforms together on
 
 
 
 
The Eastern Region Drill Meet is Saturday, 29 Mar 08 at the Macon Centreplex, 200 Coliseum Drive, Macon, GA. 31217.  We depart LHS after school on Friday by 3:30pm and will return on Saturday by 9pm.  Cadets must bring ALL uniform items to school on Thursday, 27 Mar.  See my packing list under the handouts section.  We are staying at the Regional Training Institute in Macon.  The address there is 1030 Shurling Drive, 31211-2039.  My cell number is (706) 951-0106.
 
The LEGION sleepover is at LHS on Friday, 7 March.  Parents, please contact Billy Wilson to make donations for the dinner and breakfast meals.  Feel free to stop by and watch the LEGION practice.  The Area Four Drill Meet is at Evans High school on 8 March at 8:00am.  Please come out and support your cadets.  We will go to Stevie B's afterwards.  The JROTC will pay for the pizza, but cadets must purchase their own drinks.  Reminds cadets to get their Dress Blue uniforms dry cleaned by Thursday this week. 
 
The LEGION windsuits arrived on Friday, 29 February.  Cadets wanting to get the windsuits at that time, must have the $50 balance.

The LEGION is departing right after school on 29 Feb for Dahlonega, GA to compete in the Southeastern Invitational Drill Meet at North Georgia College.  We are staying at the Motel 8 located at 20 Mountain Dr, 30533.  The number there is (706) 864-4343.  We expect to be back in the Augusta area, 8pm on Saturday, 1 March.
 
On Friday,7 March, the cadets stay overnight at LHS.  We have the Area Four competition at EHS.  This competition determines whether we compete at state level.  Please come out to watch your cadet compete.  The competition begins at 8am. 
 
The Citadel Bulldog Drill Meet on Saturday, 16 February is canceled effective 11 Feb.
 
We have initiated mandatory study sessions called "LEGION Time" before every practice from 3:00 - 3:30pm.  LEGION Time is for ALL LEGION members.  We use this time to do homework, study, and peer tutoring.  If you are an A/B Honor Roll cadet, you are still needed.  "You are your brother's keeper", so as a team let's work together to improve our grades. Cadets attending every session will be rewarded.  Our next competition is in Dahlonega on Saturday 1, March.  We depart LHS on Friday after school.  Please get the permission slips in ASAP.  There is a $10 fee per cadet for the hotel rooms.  All parents are invited to attend.
 
Our next event is the May Park Drill Show on Thursday, 21 Feb 08 at 6:00pm.  Information went home on Tues, 12 Feb.  The bus will depart LHS at 4:30pm.  Please bring your dry cleaned uniforms to school on Thursday.  May Park is immediately following the winter break, so make yourself a reminder. Remember that, "You are your brother's Keeper."  Remind your fellow teammates as well. Enjoy your break..God Bless!!

The LEGION is hosting its Annual Season Kickoff on Saturday, 8 December 2008 at Leitner Lake on Fort Gordon. We have rented the 4 RVs for the ladies to sleep in. We have an adult caperone in each RV. The guys will pitch tents on the site next to the RVs with the two male chaperones. There is NO SWIMMING allowed (too cold anyway), however fishing is allowed. Bring your fishing gear if you have it. The cost is only $10 per cadet and will cover the rental fees and all meals. I will take cadets to the lake via school bus that departs LHS at 12 noon. NO CADETS ARE ALLOWED TO DRIVE TO THE LAKE. Please visit the "Handouts" page for the permission slip (sent home on 10/12 Nov) and strip maps. ALL LEGION PARENTS ARE INVITED to come out during the day for the cookout which begins at 1pm. The 8-Block will perform after lunch. ALL cadets will be back at the school by 2pm on Sun, 9Nov. This event fosters camaraderie and teamwork. Thanks in advance for your support.

The LEGION is invited to attend the "Ring Ceremony" for the National Championship Drill Team on Sunday, 4 November 2007. Meet at the Red Lobster on Washington Road at 5pm. The 10-Block cadets (Wilcox, Roberts, Rincione, Rathkamp, Dobson,Kenney, Lett, Garcia and Garcia) earned the prestigious title through hard work and dedication. ALL members are invited. Please RSVP by Friday, so that we can make sure that we have enough seat. The dress is casual (Ladies: suit, dress, or skirt. Men: suit or button up collared shirt with slacks). Menu items begin at $9.99 plus tax and tip. We look forward to seeing you there.

The Legion received 10 NEW rifles today. We only have money for 8 rifles, so we will have to raise the money for the other two. Then we need to buy three more rifles to outfit the entire team. The LEGION is so excited!!

The Homecoming Parade is Friday, 26 Oct. All Drill Team Members are required to wear the short sleeved Drill Team shirt with dress blue pants. Wear your beret and be sure that your shoes are cleaned. Report to the JROTC portable at 7:30. Be sure to have a haircut!!

Check out the LEGION Wear tab to see the Drill Team/Color Guard travel wear. I am currently taking orders for the T-shirt and will take orders for the wind suits at the top of November. These items make excellent Christmas gifts for the cadets.

I have ordered candy bars for team member to see to help pay for their trip to Nationals. You'll get more info on that later.

Our next Sleepover is Friday, 9 Nov 07. Look for permission slips soon. Parents please sent in food, snack, or drink items in with your cadet and come out to visit if you can.

On Saturday, 13 October, the Legion is performing at the Blue Ridge Elementary School Fall festival at 12:30pm. Permission slips will go home soon. The Armed and Unarmed teams are performing. Several cadets are doing dual and individual routines as well. Please come out and support your cadet.

Our 1st sleepover on Saturday 8 September went extremely well. Thanks parents for all of the food donations. The next sleepover is Fri, 5 Oct.

The Legion team practices Tue (4-5:30pm) and Thu (3:15-5:30pm) until after Thanksgiving when practices move to Tue - Fri times will be announced later.

The 1st Annual Drill Camp was 9 - 16 July, 9:30 am - 1:30pm. 28 cadets attended. Visit the photos page to check it out!!

Our next competition is the Georgia Army State at Fort Gordon on 24 March. Come and support your Legion Drill Team!!

The Drill Team placed 2nd inExhibition Drill and 4th in Regulation Drill at Clemson(24 FEB) last week and placed 3rd in Exhibition and 3rd overall this weekend (3 Mar) in Dahlonega. The Legion brought home 7 trophies!! Way to go DT!! Individual trophies went to:

The 100.00 payment for the Nationals is due on 9 March. Please get all of your paperwork signed. Remember that the medical statement MUST be notorized.

We have Saturday practice on 17 March at 2pm - 3pm for Color Guard and 3pm - 5pm for Drill Team. Free Pizza for all who attend.

I will host two more sleepovers/team practices this season on 9 and 23 March. These sleepovers are on the nights before our last competitions (Area 4 at EHS on 10 March and State at Fort Gordon on 24 March). Please plan to attend these practices. We will depart from the school on the following mornings. Your team needs you present for the practices. Look for the permission slips soon. There is NO COST for these competitions. A lunch and light breakfast will be provided for each of these competitions. Parents, please consider sending in food, drink, or dessert item for dinner during the sleepovers. Thank you in advance.

Effective 12 FEB 07, in addition to the regular schedule (Check it out below for minor changes), the Drill Team will also practice on Wed 7:10 - 7:40am. Ladies, wear a T-shirt under your class B shirt or bring one that you can practice in. Notify me personally if you can not make this practice (10-block members).

Effective, Monday 4 December, practice for Drill Team is Mon 3:00 -4:00pm and Fri 3:00 - 4:30; Tues and Thurs 3:00 - 5:00pm. Drill Team members on the Color Guard will report for CG practice from 3 - 4 and then report to DT practice from 4-5pm.
