As of 7 December
Next semester we have our Annual Formal Inspection (AFI) on 2 February. This inspection determines whether we retain our Honor Unit w/Distinction. All cadets will participate and are graded on their general knowledge and wear of the uniform during an in-ranks inspection. Our cadet staff will give the inspecting team a briefing on our battalion status and select cadets will participate on a check of in depth curriculum knowledge. The inspecting team will also look at our Drill and Ceremony and Color Guard proficiency. The inspection will conclude with an outbrief from the brigade team to our cadet staff.
As of 5 August
First day of school is on 9 August.
On 10 August we will have the JROTC parent orientation, in Portable #3 from 6-7pm, to brief the parents on upcoming activities and opportunities in the JROTC program.
Our annual Carowinds trip is schedule for 21 August to the first 40 cadets who purchase tickets and submit their parent permission forms. This is a day trip and transportation will be by school bus.

Events for the Summer
1-5 June Summer Camp. Cadets who are signed up report to LHS at 0715 in ACUs with all of your gear. Ensure your bring either a combination or key lock to secure your items. We will be staying in Bldg 25703 at Ft. Gordon and the phone number to the barracks is (706) 791-5563/8831. We will return to Lakeside on Saturday around 1PM.
4 July we need about 15-20 cadet volunteers to assist us at Westlake to help support their annual party. This is a fundraiser for us where we raise about $800 for JROTC. Call or email MAJ McKean or SGM Gary if you are interested in participating in this fundraising event.
14-16 July is the Legion Drill Camp that runs from 0930-1330. It is open to all cadets and they will practice armed and unarmed marching techniques.
27-30 July Mini Camp. Open to all cadets from 0900-1230 each day with the focus being drill and ceremonies, leadership techniques and rappelling from a 60 foot tower. The Raiders will also practice each day from 0700-0745 and the Drill Team will practice from 0800-0845 before mini camp. Any questions please give me a call at (706) 863-0027, x228 or email me. As of 20 April:
Our Annual Awards Banquet is on 27 April at 6:30pm in the LHS gym and commons. All cadets are required to attend in their Class A or Dress Blue uniform. JROTC will purchase the chicken, rolls and flatware for the banquet.
We are asking for all cadet families, with the exception of the cadet staff families, to bring the following items: 1. Beverage of your choice. 2. A side dish (corn, beans, salad, etc...) for your family and enough to feed approximately 2 more cadets without their family and our guest presenters.
We are asking the cadet staff to bring dessert instead of side dishes.
Here are the volunteer help we need at the banquet:
1. Volunteers to help set up. 2. Volunteers to help serve food. 3. Volunteers to help clean up.

The Columbia County JROTC Military Ball scheduled for tonight at the Gordon Club has been RESCHEDULED for next Friday, 19 February due to weather conditions. Contact MAJ McKean at 706-536-3665 with any questions.

Raider Training starts on 6 July:
The Raider Team begins practicing on 6 July every
Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 0700-0900 until the beginning of school.
The schedule will be modified during mini-camp. The
Legion Drill Camp 7-10 July:
The Legion Drill Team will hold its Third Annual Drill Camp on 7– 10 July, from 0930 – 1330. It is open to all cadets interested in armed and unarmed drill, including freshmen. The unarmed and armed drill includes basic marching and drilling techniques right out of Field Manual 3-21.5, as practiced by the U.S. Army. The Drill Team also practices exhibition drill which includes the spinning and throwing of the rifles as practiced by the U.S. Army’s “Old Guard” and other elite drill teams from around the nation. This year our Legion won first place in armed exhibition at the State and National Drill Competitions. The Drill Team also placed third overall at Nationals, which was our best effort to date.
LHS Leadership Camp 28-31 July:
To ensure that our cadets get off to a good start for SY 09-10 we are conducting a 4-day JROTC Leadership Mini-Camp from 28 - 31 July at the JROTC building at Lakeside High School. The primary purpose of the mini-camp is to review correct procedures for conducting Drill and Ceremonies, prepare our future leaders in Techniques of Leadership, welcome incoming freshmen and make plans for the various activities of the JROTC program during SY 09-10. The secondary purpose is to give cadets an opportunity to get to know each other better and develop an understanding between the cadets and instructors.
The mini-camp will start with a formation at 0900 (
All cadets interested in participating in the
Raider and/or Drill Teams during mini-camp are requested to arrive early on
28-31 August, for practice/conditioning training.
