MAJ McKean retired after 20 years of active duty in the Infantry in 2006.
During his time in the Army he served four years as an enlisted Soldier and
attained the rank of Sergeant before leaving active duty. He also spent
four years in the reserves where he earned the rank of Staff Sergeant before
being commissioned as a Second Lieutenant from the University of Texas at
Arlington. He then went on to spend his next sixteen years on active duty
as an Infantry Officer. He served with the following combat units; 9th
Infantry Division, 172d Infantry Brigade, 82d Airborne Division and the 8th
Army in Korea. He also served in the 11th Infantry Regiment and the 29th
Infantry Regiment training support units at Ft. Benning, Georgia. At
Lakeside High School he will be responsible for teaching the second and
third year students as well as coaching the Raider and Rifle Teams. MAJ
McKean has been at Lakeside for the past six years and has led his unit in
retaining the highest unit award of Honor Unit with Distinction and together
with SGM Gary they provide a dynamic and award winning extra-curricular
program. He is married and has four children ages 16, 18, 20 and 25. He
enjoys running, shooting and other outdoor activities.
