Hi,
I am your child's 5th grade teacher this year. I am very excited to be a
part of your child's learning.
This is my 20th year of teaching and my 11th year at Lewis. I have experience
teaching gades K-5 with the majority of my years in 5th grade. I have taught
in North Carolina and here in Georgia, including Marietta City Schools and
Cobb County Schools.
After graduating from high school, I was employed as a typist and worked my
way up to an assistant underwriter for an insurance company. After marrying
my high school sweetheart and becoming a mom of 2 children, my career began
to change. I became a volunteer in my children's classrooms and a couple of
years later was hired as a teacher assistant in New Bern, NC. I loved being
in the classroom so much that I decided to take a few college courses in
education. Well, I went on and earned my bachelor's degree in elementary
education, and my master's in reading education, both at East Carolina U.,
and my leadership degree at Lincoln Memorial U. I accomplished all of this
while raising my family who supported me through it all.
I taught in New Bern for 6 years and then we moved to GA. My first job in GA
was teaching with the Marietta City Schools for 2 years. I then moved on to
Cobb Co. Schools and, fnally, here at Lewis.
I live in the area with my husband and my two rescue dogs, Aggie and Chloe.
Aggie is about 3 yrs. old and Chloe is 10 months old. They both keep me very
busy.
When I am not teaching, I love to go to my Jazzercise classes. I LOVE frogs
(stuffed ones) and also enjoy reading, cooking, gardening, and activities
with my family. My favorite restaurant is Whitlock's. However, I am not
choosy when it comes to eating out. I like salty snacks and dark chocolate,
and did I mention frogs? No real ones please!
As your child's teacher my mission is to provide a nurturing environment
enabling your child to grow both academically and socially.
