Welcome to 7th grade Gifted Social Studies. We will be working in our Social
Studies book as well as additional resources to learn about the basic
elements of geography and social studies. Our focus will be primarily on the
government, economy, culture, and location of countries.
Our main focus for the first nine weeks is to learn about
the different types of religion, government and economy. Our discussions
will focus on how change affects civilization and how the early civilizations
were formed in Mesopotamia. We will complete several projects in class as
well as at home. We will also have class discussions daily along with group
activities.
Starting with the second nine weeks we will explore the Middle East. We will
focus mainly on Israel, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iraq, Iran, Saudi Arabia, as
well as Jordan, and how religion has impacted each country in the past and
the present. We also looked at governments, past and present, as well as the
culture and economy.
During the third nine weeks we will study China, Japan, Vietnam, and the
Koreas. We will explore their government, economy, and culture. The role of
Communism on each of these countries will be explored extensively, including
the impact of World War II, The Korean War, and the Vietnam War.
We will also spend two weeks studying economy, GDP, production, and how each
of these affect the other. The students will really enjoy the activities
involved in this unit.
To correlate Social Studies and Language Arts, Ms. Berry and I have teamed
up to work on the seventh grade research paper. The topics are based on the
standards required by state for Social Studies. The due date for these
papers will be in March.
The last nine weeks will begin our study on the continent of Africa. Again
focusing on government, economy, religion, and culture. Ending out the year
with an in depth study of Egypt. The students always have a good time with
this unit.
Through our Daily Geography warm up, we will continually review
important map and globe skills. Let's all have an open mind and a positive
attitude, and we will have a GREAT year!
